There are reviews on this site. We went in June 2 years ago and found it too large for us,many avenues of pitches. As it was early inthe season the washrooms at the end of our avenue hadn't been cleaned when we arrived. We didn't like the music playing all the time at the pool. BUT there are reviews from people who love it... Take a look at the web site . we moved up the road to Les Pecheurs at Roquebrune sur Argens which we really liked. there are reviews of this site too.Not so close to the sea but not that far. There is the lake just across the road at Roquebrune too. I personally wouldn't think L'Etoile was that wonderful for a 4 year old, a bit large and impersonal, but wait for other opinions !
We were there in July this year, I put my review on.
We loved it, but we were with our teenage daughter, we spent a lot of time off the site at the beach, we didn't really get involved in the entertainment every night, so it's difficult to say whether it would be suitable for you with a 4 year old.
What I would say is that the facilities were really good, the site was extremely clean and well organised, and there was no hassle or late night noise, which is always a good starting point when trying to make a choice ! I'm dreading having to make our choice for next year now - just in case we don't get somewhere as good :)
We were there with the Camping and Caravannimg Club Rally in May and June . The site is excellent at that time of the year for people to enjoy lovely weather at a reasonable price.
At that time the site is very quiet but we did get to meet the sites animator who appears to sort out a lot of entertainment in the summer.

we are planning a week there the last week of August next year. Good to read your positive post and review DJMC as we have a teenage daughter who will be 15 next year.
Did you find getting a place on the beach boat ok or were there queues? We are taking our bikes too and could cycle to the beach, would this work?

Zoe, Have you had a look at the ACSI Card website (www.campingcard.co.uk). They offer several sites in the area of St Raphael/Roquebrune/Frejus. The ACSI Card gives discounts on site fees, with a site costing 12, 14, or 16 euros for a pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning and electricity, but additionally some sites offer free places for up to three children under 6 which could mean quite a saving.
Les Pecheurs (mentioned above) is one such site, at 16 euros, but 7 nights for the price of 6 up to the 5th July and then again from the 24th August. There is one site (Le Vaudois) which has a toddler pool and no entertainment, and is only 12 euros per night.
Have a look at the website and you might find something which interests you - and potentially could save you a good deal of money.
It's some years since we stayed at L`Etoile D`Argens (pre-flooding), but it wasn't our cup of tea then (in high season): predominantly Brits, pool was packed out and we could never get a sunbed, queues for the river bus (and we heard stories from other campers about them not being able to get the river bus back, and operators doing a 'women and children only' policy on late returns!). Lots of dog poo on the path down to the river bus. Showers were too hot and not adjustable, in the block near us, and the loo block was a bit old and could have been cleaner. It was expensive, to boot.
It might be different now, and especially at the end of June when things will be less hectic.

We are going to book for next year. The site looks amazing with huge super pitches and great facilities. We are staying at a fairly low key site at the Verdon Gorges initially so this will be a real treat for us later on, particularly as I've heard that the pitches are generally smaller down South.
Aiming to travel back to Roscoff probably around the Wednesday of the last week. We are allowing 2 stopovers on the return journey. Part of me wishes that we were hiring a static tho & not touring. How about you?
Hi Jo, we are staying in a 3 bed static with air con booked through Roan holidays. Costing £1200 for the 2 weeks. Eurocamp wanted 1k more for the same sites, same dates!!!
We will arrive in Frejus on the 23rd Aug. Currently thinking of crossing Portsmouth-Le Havre as getting overnight crossing arriving in Le Havre at 8am means we can get a fair distance the first day. Alternative is two stops on the way down which not keen on, its just too far from home (Gloucester) to southern Burgundy in one day going to Folkestone. This year getting a 10am tunnel meant leaving home around 5.30am then the tunnel was delayed and we were shattered by the time we got to Bourges late afternoon and macon is around 100 miles further. So if we arrive in Le Havre at 8am we plan to overnight around the Macon area, get an early start to get past Lyon then follow the Route de Napoleon via Grenoble on day 2 hopefully arriving onsite by late afternoon. Ferry coming in at £374 through the CC which we feel is worth it as we'll save around 300 miles of driving and the tolls will be a bit less. Coming home the ferry dosent leave France til 5.30pm Sunday giving us plenty of time to drive through France over two days.
We have a week at Domaine du Verdon before moving to Frejus. We had a caravan til a couple of months ago and much as I loved the comfort and flexibility site wise we just didn't use it enough to justify the expense, running costs etc. The big plus of the mobile is the ease of just packing a few bags, chucking them in the car then heading off. I take old bedding and throw it in the bin on our last morning (less washing when we get home )
It works for us at the moment with the kids (17 and 15)but longer term we plan to buy a LWB VW T5 and hit the road in that when its just the two of us!

Savanne1, we didnt experience any problem with queues for the boat, which left every 40 minutes from about 10am - we generally went on the earlier boat so that we were returning to site about 3pm. I did hear that it was very busy on the last couple of trips, so we didn't want to risk having to walk back to the site (it was soooooo hot !!)
There were lots of people cycling to the beach - I'm not quite sure how far it is in distance, but I would guess at 1.5 miles, if we had taken bikes then we would have been quite happy to cycle there, the road is flat, but quite dusty in places !
We loved the site - especially the huge (but very expensive !) pitch :)
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
