Hi
Has anyone been to Le Boucanet in the south of France, Gard area, All the reviews i can find are a few years old, so im looking for a more current viewpoint. Im travelling with a party of 5 including a 15yr old 11yr old and 8yr old all boys, we will be camping. If anyone else has any recommendations for another campsite in that area it would be most appreciated.
Think Val A used to go there a lot, but they filled most of their pitches with statics so she stopped going there, I believe. We like Le Neptune at Grau D'Agde, not beachside but a nice 15 minute stroll along the river (or five minute drive) to the beach.
Exessexmum is right - we had several lovely holidays at Le Boucanet, and their beachside pitches were lovely. Then the site filled those pitches with 'cabins' and mobile homes, as they did with the larger pitches around the site. This meant that the remaining pitches seemed cramped, and often there really wasn't enough room to get the car on properly. In turn this led to cars being parked half on the pitch and half on the road. This caused the roads to be cramped and difficult to get through - so the site just lost quite a lot of its attraction for us.
I doubt things have improved as once campsites fill with mobile homes it changes the atmosphere of the site.
We've been back to Camping Le Neptune lots of times since then, and whilst it's a very different site to Le Boucanet we like it a lot. However, we go out of season - in May/June or late August/September. Whether it would be lively enough for a fifteen year old, I'm not sure, but those with families may be able to answer that better than me.
Last September we stayed on a site at La Grande Motte and had a cycle trip from there to Grau d'Agde. As we'd stayed at Boucanet a few years ago, and our cycle trip took us past the site, we decided to have a nosy round.
Well, as Val has said, there are an awful lot of mobile homes, chalets, statics, or whatever you care to call them now. All the best pitches along the front are now occupied by those, as are a lot of other previous touring pitches. There are still some touring pitches, but none of the pitches have any views, other than other caravans/motorhomes, or chalets. On top of that, most are very sandy, and people tend to park their cars on the road, rather than the pitch. Some touring pitches seemed to be almost on top of the neighbouring chalet, not what I would like. It isn't the site we liked years ago, and I certainly wouldn't want to stay there now.
This was last September, it's possible that more chalets have been put on over winter, as some French sites seem to be getting more and more chalets.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
If you can manage 2 hours more driving, then go to Spain, much better beach side campsites. My review was from a few years ago, but found the site dirty. The beach is not especially nice there
Its been years since we have been to Boucanet. We found it a very sandy site to the point where we got bogged down in the sand on our pitch and had to be dragged out by the site staff. We have tried all sorts of places along the Med Coast from Antibes to Argeles. Last year we happened upon Marseillan Plage which we thought quite nice. There is a good choice of campsites there and stayed at Camping Robinson which is a fairly basic site which suited us but might not those seeking more facilities. Might be worth a look.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
