Hi,
We are travelling to Bernkastel in teh Mosel valley in July. We are taking the overnight ferry from Hull to Eurpoort, has anyone got the best suggestions on route.

The route finders/sat navs give you 3 main possibilities:

Down through Belgium via Antwerp/Liege etc.

South through Holland, cross the border at Venlo, all the way to Koblenz then across

Via southern Holland past Breda, Eindhoven, Masstrict, across into Belgium and down on the A27 to cross the border at St. Vith and straight to Mosel on A60.

I was leading towards the latter choice myself, but if anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful, it would be good to miss the traffic, although at least we are travelling on Sunday.

Dan

Do you have to tow a caravan? If you have, cross the border at Venlo, motorways in better conditions and less steep. If not, go via Maastricht.
But the three routes don't make much difference and certainly not on Sunday.

There are some steep hills between Verviers and the the German border. Not that steep that you can't tow, but the route via Venlo is just easier. The Belgian motorways are also often in a bad condition.
Like I said before there is not much difference between the three routes, but that's a difference. So the Venlo route is a bit longer, but it is also a bit easier route. And especially if you are towing.

We have done that route from Veviers down lots of times and there is no problem towing up or down the hills with caravan. We have large outfit and have no problems. You will love the Mosel I am sure. Bernkastel is a wonderful place been many many times over the last 35 years.
