One other bit of advice is that the tunnel fares rise steeply within six months of the date of travel. (For example, quote one way with over six months to travel, £150. Rises to £210 if the travel date is within six months).
Just tried this for prices for March and October and got the same prices both journeys (and yes, I did clear the "cookies" before I tried it again. I also cleared "history")
Give or take a few quid, there was not a lot of difference.
Basically, it's a lot of money even using the Tesco vouchers but it's so convenient
Just an aside: I've never taken the ferries since we got a dog. I'm just not sure how he would hold up to being cooped up in the van for 3 or 4 hours.

Probably our main reason for using the tunnel... even 1.5 hours dover calais is a bit worrying...
We use the tunnel twice a year with caravan and a dog for the same reason as Alan Glynn smith.I don't shop at Tesco but have a Tesco Credit Card that EVERYTHING goes on, so the £300 return trip costs me nothing.

Not sure what happened with my booking. I was trying to book a single, Calais to Folkstone on 24th August. For weeks the price had been £150 each way, in the end I decided to ferry it one way and return on the chunnel. Booked the ferry Sunday evening, Feb 24th, price for chunnel was showing as £150, but phone lines for ferry bookings were closed. So I waited until Monday 25th Feb. The price had gone up to £210.
I think this was a one off, rather than a standard six month thing. So apologies for my misinformation. I phoned to query it, and the call operator told me I wasn't the first person to ring up and query the price rise during her shift, so I know I'm not going daft.
Well, not completely, I did try to use Tesco's vouchers one way from France, which you can't do. Lesson learnt. Cancelled the voucher via Tesco, but have to wait until the next statement (May) before I get the points back.
Booked my channel tunnel crossing yesterday with Tesco vouchers. I have to say their customer service is outstanding. Last year we changed our minds about 6 times (literally) about dates and times and they happily change bookings and just charge any difference, no additional admin fees at all. I asked yesterday how late they will change a booking and apparently it's 24 hours AFTER the crossing should have been!! So if you are booked on a Friday at 7pm you have until Saturday at 7pm to amend the booking!!
We book a crossing for Easter as an 'insurance policy' so we can drive to Italy to ski, but two days before we are due to go we contact the tour operator to see if they have any last minute packages (flight & acommodation)going cheap and book one if so, then move the channel tunnel crossing to the summer when we will definitely use it. Perfect.
Just in case anyone is wondering if there is a price difference based on when you book-
We paid £150 for a return tunnel crossing (car only), booked in January to travel in August. The same crossing would cost £228 if we booked it today.
Hope this will be of help (for next year at least).
