are there any sites other than Village du lac near to Bordeaux for a couple of days site seeing in the city?

There's also Camping  Beau Soleil, at Gradignan, to the south of Bordeaux, with a bus service 200 metres away, and then many more sites as you get towards the coast.

You could stay a bit further up in the Medoc and then use the really excellent park & ride scheme, which is extremely cheap, efficient and takes you right into the centre.
