Looking for recommendations for touring site on the costa brava or bay of roses. Would prefer small adults only site. We quite fancy Spain as a change to France. We have been previously but not to either area and would to visit

I'm not sure that such a thing will exist in Spain - the Spanish love children and I can't imagine there will be many sites which exclude them. Googling in Spanish or Catalan doesn't come up with anything either.
When are you going to be on holiday. From experience, even in Spain, during early and late season, with the exception of weekends, there are few children around on most sites, especially if you choose those in a less 'touristy' destination. Have a look at some of the smaller sites, which offer less facilities http://www.camping-espagne.net/camping-gerone.htm or look at the ACSI Card website as that's used a lot by mature couples to find discounted out of season sites. www.campingcard.co.uk - from 12 euros and even 30 days for 21 in low season!

I'll go and find it if I can! Sorry edited in later, couldn't find the thread, but it was about someone travelling down to southern Spain in March who wanted an adults only site for an overnight stop somewhere near Barcelona/Tarragona area.

Thanks for the info Val A, the reason for wanting a smaller site is that being a couple who's children no longer come we don't need all that the busy sites provide. I will look at the links and hopefully find one.
Out of interest which route would you use if travelling via France to the area?

For the Costa Brava I would use 'normal' way, via the Languedoc and Perpignan, but we prefer using the old roads rather than the tolls roads. This is slower, though, as it goes through a few built-up areas. We've also used the autopista in the past, when we've been doing solo holidays in hired cars.
If you're going further south (Tarragona area) then you could go via Toulouse, Ax les Thermes, Bourge Madame, and down into Spain via Berga and Manresa which is a nice route, even with a caravan and the views from the service area at the top are spectacular.
We're also a couple with adult children, who don't come with us, but I must admit that we just prefer 'nice' sites, and if they're larger sites with facilities, then they are often so quiet in early season that you can feel you've got the site to yourselves.
We went to Moby Dick in Callella de Palafrugell. Basic site, unlike most of others in vicinity which are huge and all singing and dancing.
Another we liked was Relax Nat, naturist, but in season would be jam packed. Small pitches beneath trees. The beach, after a short drive/bike ride, despite a tortuous walk, we never found, but know it is there somewhere! Lovely area.

We were there from end of May till end of June last year. It was very quiet even at weekends for the first 3 weeks or so, and after that was only just starting to pick up. A lot of the time we were the only outfit in our area of the campsite. There are a couple long stay Dutch and Belgian couples who stay from Easter to Sept. But I think they have been badly hit by the recession in that a lot of their Spanish business are not coming away for weekends.
It suits us very well as it has such a peaceful atmosphere yet is so close to beaches, shops, cities etc. We're returning at the end of May this year and staying till some time in July. One way ticket booked
Whilst a large site it is divided up by substantial hedges so that it seems quite small. The sanitaires are brilliant there is a "proper" restaurant on site which did a 4 course meal + wine for €12.
It is adjacent to a very large wildlife park and has dedicated cycle paths to Rosas.
We stayed at Internacional camping at Palamos. It is a camping cheque site. It is not very big and we loved it. It is just a 5minute walk from La Fosca beach which is lovely. The only down side is that some of the pitches are quite small and we just accepted the first one we were shown to which was actually big enough for our needs. We will be returning this year and will ask to choose a pitch to suit us. We stayed there for 4 weeks May into June last year and loved every moment. The town of Palamos is a 10 minute walk and there is a large supermarket 3 minutes away by car. the town is really good and there are lots of tapas bars serving very cheap tapas.
Have a look at l'estartit, they have several small sites and it's a lovely old fishing village with one of the best long golden sandy beaches in Europe. It's got a nice harbour and just in the costa brava so not to much travelling into Spain.

A really good site to look at is La Gaviota - compared with the other local sites, it is very small and slightly more basic. However, it looks lovely and really well maintained. We stay at a site close by, Camping Aquarius, in July and August, it is very family oriented, however, earlier and later in the season it is very popular with campers without children
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
