Does anyone know a good Camping Municipal in Midi Pyrenees, somewhere a bit East of Lourdes so we can have a run to the Med one day? We have tentatively booked Camping Merens Les Vals which looks great on the website but having another look at the area in planning the route we are now suspecting it is very close to the N20...

Have a look at Le Bourg in Belcastel, Aveyron. It is not a municipal but it is a beautiful location with just 30 pitches and is inexpensive, and the most iportant of all it will be peaceful, green and not at all commercial. Nowhere near Lourdes (which is madly busy all year round), but is is near Rodez, the Millau bridge and the Bastide towns.
We too are headiong for the Midi Pyrenees this year, and after reading 'Sepulchre' we may well have a visit to Carcassonne.

Not a municipal site but can thoroughly recommend Pyrenees Natura which is South of Lourdes. It is somewhat remote but is in a stunning location. It is an ACSI site if you are going out of season. Check the reviews on this website and it gets rave reviews (including me). Attached a photo of the reception taken last June and of the Lac d'Estaing which is only about 6km from the site.

Hi - we passed the campsite at Merens les Vals this morning! it looks very nice, in a wide part of the valley back from the road.
BUT be aware that the Puymorens tunnel is closed for renovations and you have to go over the Col at 2000metres. It is then a long way down through the Cadi tunnel towards Barcelona, or even longer and more demanding the way we came via Ripoll, Olot and Figueres. It was a beautiful road, but very windy with big drops, over the Collada des Toses at 1800m.
We are now at camping Mas Nou at Castello D'Ampuries on the c
Costa Brava - a very nice site.

Do you know how long the tunnel will be closed? We are looking for an alternative route to the Costa Brava and won't be towing. How long does it take from the border to Figueres? And what's the weather like at the moment? It was very chilly and wet this time last year.
Sorry for hijacking the thread!
