I am thinking of buying a Satnav. Which system provides the best European maps? Also can I travel through the channel tunnel with a gas bottle?

Yes you can travel through channel tunnel with gas bottle. I know nothing about satnavs though.

You can travel through the tunnel with gas bottles. They must be turned off and you can't use gas on the train.
The satnav I use is this one on Ebay 261118441333 it has free updates and you can turn the speed camera warnings off. It has never let me down in France or Spain.

If you have an iPhone a fantastic option is the iPhone TomTom for western Europe app. You get free map updates for life and its just over 50quid.

You can search the t'interweb on your iPhone and navigate to places you find like local restaurants or petrol stations, art galleries et al.

It does give warnings about unknown hazards in France which may or may not be speed cameras ;)

Best app I ever bought!

I've just used Navfree France on Iphone. Better than my old Tomtom, though not perfect. But on price, can't be beaten!

How old was your old TomTom? Almost anything would be better than some of the earlier tomtoms!

I use the TOMTOM 1 XL use GPS readings not postal area codes tho. Yes you can take gas bottles through tunnel but they must be disconnected.

Oh, it was old! Tomtom One europe edition; bought by family when my mapreaders grew up and left. It is still quite serviceable, but when I went to update the maps, they were asking a king's ransom. Navfree has a paid option, that takes off the advert bar; but a map for each country is £2.
