Hello

Need some suggestions on France for our family holiday. Many friends have suggested the Vendee for short travel time vs. sunny weather.

Looking for recommendations for our family. We are Him, Me, 8, 6 & 2 1/2 and have our own tent. Quite fancy place with a pool and within walking distance (say 3/4 mile max walking distance)of a beach.

In England we like tent orientated (not static orientated) sites, without club house/restaurant, with play park and very clean/spotless wash block. Think we may need to have some of these on a site to get a pool. Will probably need fridge hire as our coolbox may not cope.

I have been looking at sites and reviews (on here) and all seem to have bad reviews. Help please...

Frazzle

Noooo...there are loads of cracking sites in the vendee...its great.

You don't say when you want to go, may be a bit late for this year...if you are going in school holiday periods you probably wont have the pick of the sites.

We've stayed at Bel at La Tranche sur Mer...basic site, basic pool, close to beach and town; Zagarella at Longville sur Mer, better pool complex, car drive to beach and town (La Tranche is a car drive away); Les Ecureils at St Hilaire de Riez is a smallish site, good pool complex, beach across the road but a drive to town St Gilles Croix de Ville or St Jean de Monts...all the sites are clean and well kept.

Charente Maritime is just a bit further south, also a nice area...we are going back there this year to Les Mathes / La Palmyre region.

I enjoyed ocean D'or in the vendee direct beach access.....mix of statics and tents, reasonably priced. Seaside town with cafes etc to walk to in the evening. Lots to do around and about, they have availability for August.

Camping Du Jard, in the La Griere, of La Tranche sur mer area, great beach approx. 800 metres walk, , nice pool complex, spotless showers & toilets, shop, bakery restraunt ,club- bar on site. Approx 2 miles into La Tranche sur mer, there is a free bus goes past the camp. There is a small supermarket left outside the camp, but a big super U in La Tranche. We went here in 2012, and it was very hot 35 degrees for the first week. I think you can hire a fridge from the site. Pitches are large with good shade in some parts. If you turn right outside the camp there is a nice walk into La Griere, few bards, restraunts ice cream parlours, and also a little fair for younger kids, Would definetly go again

Thank you. Oh lots to look at for me. (Time to do packed lunches and clean school shoes now).

Veema - Yes in August this year please (unless we miss the church holiday club for end of July)

Keavo - this site looks good but is under another area (Loire) - hence why the UKC seaching did not bring it up!!
