Drove past yesterday, and there were crowds of people, parked / abandoned cars, gendarmes, photographers and a lot of traffic chaos! Wonder if it was a grand re opening?

They were laying the last 2 sections into the bridge. Quite a sight I believe.

From a friend of mine who lives just outside Rouen:

The Grande-Mare tunnel on the N28 is closed southbound until 8 August.
This is causing massive problems and the east side of Rouen is best avoided.
The signed HGV westerly route is the quickest:

The tunnel is open for north-bound traffic, but only one lane.

Thanks, it was certainly of interest locally, but couldn't find out what it was all about. Not long now, hopefully!

They have fitted the new section - quite a feat judging by the pictures. There are also videos on youtube of them removing the damaged section.

Can confirm that the southbound traffic is being diverted and that northbound traffic is using the southbound tunnel. (Went through it about an hour ago!)

Felt sorry for anyone who, like us, had meticulously planned their 'Eastern Escape Route'. So glad that we were going north today. What a nightmare!
