As there now appears to be problems in the tunnels as well as the bridge still being out, I am considering by passing Rouen altogether, I have come up with this route just using Google, I stress I have not driven it but using street views it does seem ok.
I should add that I have an aversion to tolls, hence my desire to get onto the N154.
I wondered if anyone else has tried this or similar please?

We've gone from Les Andelys up to the A28, I think by this route: following Tomtom at the time. It's very much 'country roads', quite narrow; and there's a steep hill at Fleury-s/-Andelle where the road goes into the river valley. The Bray area is hilly limestone country, pretty but remote - a bit Wold-like.
I wouldn't want to tow a 'van that way, though it's possible. Just meeting a truck or a wide tractor might be a bit too much fun.
Have you looked at the Pont de Brotonne option, downstream of Rouen? It looks like a detour on the map, but the roads are wider and less hilly.
I think the Pont Brotonne route is the best. Yes, everyone will have an opinion but I thought it was so good, I'd use it even if they stuck a motorway right through the centre of Rouen now. And if you are heading towards Le Mans, Tour etc, its a no-brainer.

For those travelling west no doubt the Pont Brotonne route is a good one, but for those heading down 'Sarf' towards Evreux/Orleans it's a bit of a dilemma which way to go. It will be useful to have some feedback from those heading south to see what the signposted diversions are like, or for anyone who can come up with a good alternative suggestion. There are some cross-country routes which aren't too bad - we've done them in other areas in the past - but on others it's very easy to get lost/stuck behind agricultural machinery/or just come up an undiverted 'Route Barree' sign somewhere! None of the alternatives around Rouen look like particularly good alternative choices.
Why not just use the pont de Brotonne route and then go back along the A13 motorway to the Evreux turn. Granted it'll be about 20 odd miles longer but no hassles or holdups

It brings you out at the junction of the A28 and A13 south west of Rouen. From there you can follow the A28 to Le Mans or The A13 west to Caen or east towards Paris.
The Evreux junction is about 35km back towards Paris ie about 20 mins

Just returned from holiday yesterday, majority of time spent in Loches just south of Tours. We crossed via the tunnel and used the Pont Brotonne route both going and coming. Compared to our usual route of through Rouen I've got to say Pont Brotonne is, to me anyway,the most user friendly. Relatively quiet, straight forward and would definitely use it again.

Dover ferry crossing tomorrow teatime, ready or not we will be hitting Rouen about about midday on Wednesday heading south armed with several routes should be fun.
Last few times heading south we have left the A28 at J11 westwards on to the N road (N29) to Totes then due south on the toll free A 151/A150 joining up with the N138 to Le Mans and beyond. Free and easy to follow with no delays.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
