Hi all

I am trying to find smaller sites for tents or statics in Western France, 4 years ago stayed in Brittany at camping pros peron which was lovely. Not into large sites with pools and waters slides etc. Location wise from Brittany down to Biarritz all options. Main thing is smaller site with lower degree of commercialism,

Thanks

Have you looked at the campsite search on here?  There are loads of sites and pitch numbers are given, plus reviews, so you can read what 'real people think'.  You can also use the Camping France website to search for smaller sites - Pick your area, then select 'Search by criteria' and then 'Search by number of plots' and whatever else you need from all the other drop-down lists.  That will give you a selection to look through and then you can have a look at the campsite's own website.

If you're going outside of peak season, though, don't necessarily dismiss some of the larger sites - which can be very quiet outside peak season.

Camping La Domaine de Bellevue just out of St Christophe du Ligneron, or Camping Les Charmes just out of Apremont are both quiet, with just a swimming pool & in pretty locations.
Oh, both are in the Vendee.

Small sites between Brittany and Biarritz? There are hundreds so I'll just start at the top. Have a look at Camping Vert de Creachlann - it's in Finistere. Lots more small privately owned sites like that one and then all the municipal sites.

Our fave is Camping La Cote in Messanges north of Biarritz. Will go back for the third time next year.
Small, privately owned, wide mix of nationalities, nice but not fancy pool, no bar or restaurant but visiting food vans most nights. Close to beaches, towns, supermarkets...
Look at my review from last year.
Books up v quickly for peak season as small & lots of returning guests.

Camping Atlantique Foret near Les Mathes.

No pool, no bar, just lots of space and no hedges which makes it feel quite free. Cycle distance to beaches and small shops down the road at the all-singing/dancing campsite.

-------------
Camping - emotional resilience in action, a triumph of hope over adversity and antidote to virtual reality.
