what kind of prices are we talking about per night please. I have seen figures of £40 -£50 per night in France in high season. Eek.. I presume these types of sites will have excellent facilities, large pitch with own water points,- maybe on or very close to a beach?
I am out of touch with prices for camping abroad, as we usually stay in statics.
Would 40 euros a night in high season get you a really good campsite in many parts of France for summer holidays?
Sorry I can't help with an alternative to Du Letty. It's a very popular site. Shame they've hiked the prices up.

Somewhere like Camping Pors Peron in Brittany is well equipped and well thought of and costs 22 euros or £18 a night in high season for two people. Outside the summer peak you pay 12 euros or £10 with an ACSI card.

It's right by the beach so you swim in the sea instead of a pool. Inland campsites can include a pool for that sort of price, even in summer, but not the sort of fancy ones they have at Le Letty.

In regard to the original question, do you want a site in Brittany?  If not there are Mediterranean sites with pool complexes, and a beach, but probably at a similar cost to Le Letty.  If you're prepared to compromise on location then you can get inland sites with pool complexes for much less, or beachside sites without a pool complex, as Berriow says.

As far as the second question - about cost - you can get a really really good campsite in France for 40 euros a night, even in high season, but it depends what you call 'good'.  People have different opinions on what makes a 'good' campsite.

You can also go just outside peak season (ie early July and after about the middle of August) for as little as €10 euros (£7.77), using an ACSI card.  This pays for a pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning and electric hook up.  There are 254 sites at either €10 or €12 (£9.33)  per night!  (Probably 10 or 12 at just 10 euros).  Many of them have lovely pools, excellent sanitary facilities, and plenty are within walking distance of lovely towns to have a meal or just a wander.
