Having spent two months touring in France with a twin axle caravan I found some pitches very tight. I wondered if it would be valuable to have a forum where sites both here and abroad could be added that are o.k. for longer rigs?

I think the answer is to seek out sites with open parkland layouts rather than those with boxed in hedged plots. Even with a small caravan those are the ones we prefer and over the years have discovered lots - Sallanches, Azay le Rideau, Ste Anne d'Auray, Lalley, Chatillon sur Chalaronne, Les Mathes, Saujon, Damazan, Plougoulm and Le Poet Laval all come to mind, but some do charge extra for big caravans.

If you click on our gallery images here you'll see some examples of sites where space is not a problem.

I've stayed in a number of sites with hedged plots, but which also have unenclosed space round the edges, as it were, for larger outfits, either twin axles or RV's.  I can't recall any in France, but have seen several in Spain, Italy and Germany. Sometimes blogs are a good source of information, eg www.joysofeuropeancravanning.co.uk - this is a couple with a twin axle, although they seem to go mostly to Austria.

I have used these Campsites in France. We have a large twin axle. They are all easy to get to on good roads with easy access and good pitches.

Camping Les Peupliers, Couhe

Parc De Loisirs, Cloyes.

Camping Les Acacias, Tours

Le Futuriste Rue Du Chateau
St Georges Les Baillargeaux
Poitou-Charentes

Camping Larrouleta, Urrugne

Camping Les Epinettes, Peuplingues

The ACSI book/website specifies pitch size, we used it as a guide with no problems.

Many thanks for your responses. I have made a note of your suggested sites. When I post reviews of sites in future I will add a comment re suitable or not for twin
axles.
Many thanks again.
