We've done quite a few trips to Netherlands over last few years with our caravan. We find it very caravan friendly (I think it's the only country in the world with more caravans per population than UK!)
We've stayed at Camping Koningshof before near Leiden - it's only around 40mins to Amsterdam and you can use parka and ride. Other advice would be to stay somewhere north of Amsterdam, Marken is a beautiful village if you can find something nearby, also if you drive to the north side of amsterdam, you can usually find some where to park for free arround the Villengbos park, and then catch the bus or the free ferry into the city.
If you want a quiet area away from the big cities, with great cycling and good beaches, then try Zeeland. It's our favourite place, but we do have 2 little ones who enjoy the beaches!
In terms of cycling, my advice would be to hire bikes there. There's nothing wrong with taking your own, but hire is very cheap over there for what are great quality bikes, the 'upright' Dutch-style bikes are better for riding on their roads and cycle paths. The basic rule in Holland is that the bike is king - everything in towns and on the roads is designed to make cycling as pleasurable as possible. If you're after a slightly easy ride then the electric bikes they have for hire are brilliant, but obviously a bit more expensive - the cafes have little symbols in the windows to show those that have a charging point to use while you have a coffee.

The inside cabins on the DFDS ferry are the cheapest and absolutely fine. Outside cabins have a small window but there's not much to see! 2 berth inside cabins are bunks so are quite small. There are some outside cabins with double beds which are a bit larger and sometimes are only about £10 more. If you intend to eat on the ferry prepay and book your meals as it's about 30% cheaper than paying on board. If you're flexible check ferries on different days as prices can vary considerably. Sunday/Monday from UK and Monday/Tuesday from Holland are usually cheapest.

€10.95 non members € 9.95 if a member..
Would not go to Europe without it after using it for 12 years since its introduction in 2004.
Holland is a lovely country to visit.

Sure, if the sites you are visiting give ACSI card discounts at the time you are going then buy the card and the book. But it rarely works out that way for us.

Mmmm! how does this work, is there a vets practice at ferry terminal, or do you have to find a local vet on day of return? sorry for been a thicko, but it is all new to me and would love an explanation and any tips on this bit.
thicko here again, when would i have to visit the vets, eg on the mornining of travel or the day before, etc?
the reason I am asking is because with the caravan in tow, I dont want to be trailing off route looking for the vets address.
This dog/vet problem could be the hinge as to wether I venture abroad with dog (pup)
