Ive booked Portsmouth Caen crossing for the first time, and so im looking for a stopover site near the ferry. The caravan club site recommendation has lots of negative reviews so would like some positive ones. Thanks very much

We stopped in the site just down the road from the port. Although the ferry was on time we didn't get to the site until 11am. The site owners were fine with that however. Despite what I'd read we never came across an anti English vibe although there was loud music until the early hours and people driving cars at 2am. As a result we're on the overnight ferry this year. On balance the reviews are about right and I'd think about going a little further before stopping if possible.
If you arrive at 2130 in the evening then you won't want to go further than Camping les Pommiers, 500 metres from the ferry for your first night.
If you arrive on the ferry in the morning or the afternoon then you have a much bigger choice, such as along the coast to Courseulles sur Mer, or a little way inland to Bayeux - both places with sites good for a longer stay.
The closest is Camping les Pommiers at Ouistreham. We have used it several times - in fact, will be doing again in June - and although not the sort of site I would stay on for more than a couple of nights, for overnight it is fine. The site's sanitary facilities are functional rather than luxurious, so we use our own, but the convenience of the location more than compensates for this. Other campers we have found to be perfectly friendly, even when packed in like sardines on the weekend of the 14th July ( though it was rather noisy - but only till about 9pm and then, really quiet)! We much prefer this to Camping les Hautes Coutures, where we had a less than great experience, though to be fair, it is a lot of years since we were there. You can contact them by email , or just turn up!

As already said if you arrive at 9.30pm Les Pommiers is just off the first big roundabout after leaving the Ferry € 20pn with Electric. We have used it a lot of times both going to and co img back from France.
Just back -and used Les Pommiers both inward and outward. Well sign-posted on the main road in/out, cheap fuel round the corner. If your outfit is long be careful coming out- the gate post bears lots of scars from the unwary!
Another positive for Les Pommiers. We used it last September from the 9.30pm ferry. Fine...no need to uncouple van. Agree with other posts that you wouldnt want to stay too long but having this site so near the port made this ferry very practical. Would use again without doubt.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
