Nope sorry. No idea what toll roads have got to do with avoiding Paris. Especially since the one thing that Paris doesn't suffer from is toll roads (the duplex tunnel excepted).

If you go via Paris you need to use mostly toll rds, from Calais to Paris & after Paris unless you use N20 down to Orleans & of course one can go Calais, Paris non toll in a straight line if you like country roads & pretty villages.
Going via Rouen allows one to avoid most tolls & it is still a viable & quick route to Orleans, which is why many of us use it, not because we are 'scared' of Paris, in fact the route via Paris is more straightforward but plenty of us who have better things to spend our holiday cash on than ripoff road tolls.
Just pointing out why most folk generally avoid going via Paris on that route in case you hadn't realised. Still at least you now know its good financial management, rather than fear, unless of course you are loaded then cost don't matter.
& then you have down A10 to Orleans & if you are towing a caravan tolls are near on 50€ one way Calais-Orleans, so a fair wedge. Going via Rouen one can take old N1, now D901 to avoid toll to Abbeville & then at Rouen take route on right of river(as you look at map)via Pont-de-l'Arche & onto N154 all the way for no toll whatsoever. The route down to Chartres is mostly dual carriageway & the road down to Orleans has been improved in the last few yrs with bypasses so no probs.
The traffic can be a bit sticky around Dreux but nothing major & you do not have such a potential for major holdups as one does going via Paris so little difference in time if one is driving at caravan speed.

Just a reminder of my original post
10 euros Paris Orleans - makes a total of 30 euros.
Add to that less wear and tear on the vehicle, less stress for the driver and passengers and arriving sooner at your destination makes it a fair deal for me and certainly no rip off
Well yes, so even car only thats 60€ return vs no € 'tother way, an amount not to be sniffed at & certainly better spent elsewhere. You said you didn't understand why folk were so 'scared' of Paris, now you know, for most of us it's the cost.
There have been plenty of posters over the years who have wanted to avoid Paris due to being 'scared' of the implications of Parisian traffic.
Additionally there are those who are 'scared' of the cost implications of using autoroutes and there are those who avoid Paris in order to make their Euros go further.
I normally avoid the Rouen route simply to save manoeuvring through the 30+ sets of traffic lights and roundabouts.

Fear of Paris is curable with a little forum therapy, despite the implied condesention from some posters. Fear of 30 sets of traffic lights is curable by adoption of truck driver's forward observation. Fear of tolls is sadly incurable.
It is silly to scoff at the payment of tolls if you are not prepared to think it through.
After years of avoiding Paris and going the Rouen route, this year we went via Paris.
Because of arthritis and thrombosis, it is uncomfortable for us to go more than 2 hours at time and more than 200 miles (320 km) in a day. So on a trip Dunkerque to Olivet, we would .normally stopover around Rouen.
Using the autoroute and going via Paris, Olivet was reached in the day. Because of the steady speed on the motorway the fuel consumption was better, and not having the speed humps and round abouts to aggravate knee injuries, far more comfortable.
We have the advantage of a Silver Caravan which is specifically designed to be 1.98m high so is classified as classe 1 for tolls
Comparison Dunkerque to Olivet (using ViaMichelin, fuel at 1.20 euro/lit)
Using A1 via Paris 425 km Time 4hours 32mins
Fuel consumption (40.3 mpg) = 30.3litres = 36.36 euro
Tolls = 26.40
Total = 62.76
Via Rouen – no toll 476km Time 5hours36mins
Fuel consumption (33.1 mpg)= 38.9litres = 46.68 euro
Overnightstop = 16.00
Total = 62.68
So, in our specific case, we get to the campsite faster (1hour 4mins), fresher and have gained a day's holiday at a cost of 8 cents.
Thus to quote others on here..it is a no brainer and only if you are made of money and costs don't matter,should you go the non toll route.
Read the thread SG, the point being made was that Paris is mostly avoided on the route being discussed to avoid tolls, I was simply answering a poster's question. They did not understand why drivers were 'scared' of Paris & I explained it was the mostly toll avoidence rather than any worry about driving around Paris which is actually an easier route than via Rouen.
This is all information that is useful & relevant to this thread, as is your post, although take off the 16€ for the overnight stop as this does not figure in calculations as campers are unlikely to take 2 extra days holiday to avoid tolls on a slower route.
So both ways thats 32€ & a worthwhile saving, I find overnight stops quite interesting due to the diverse nature & nationalities of fellow campers on site. I'm sure others might take a similar view & regard the overnight stops as an enjoyable part of the holiday.
