I liked Brantome for the 2 nights we were there, got in a local bar with a group of old french men with 3 words of english between them at a lunch time and rolled out with them about 9pm with an invite to join them the next day

Not sure if too far off track for you, but the riverside pitches are hedged and its on acsi in june
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
We never book but just follow the sun and it's surprising how many times we've ended up in Brantome. We've even stayed for two weeks!!
Peyrelevade is ACSI 14€. The small town is lovely and has plenty of restaurants and weekly market. There is Aldi and Carrefour within easy walking distance. The campsite has a lovely swimming pool - just what you need in hot weather. It doesn't feel too big as hedges divide the site into smaller areas. The sanitaires are fine, one set being extra fine. I'm sure there are reviews on here.
In June this year it got very full and more Brits than we've ever seen! However this was the situation all over France. The Dutch couple opposite us were there for 8 weeks, and a lovely English couple (she celebrated her 80th birthday there) who had been going for 30 years, were staying for 6 weeks.
In May and June booking shouldn't be neccessary but we try to arrive late morning or early afternoon.
There are lots of nice campsites in the Dordogne and lots of places to visit if you haven't been before. There are lots of great campsites all over France but we would never tie ourselves down by booking.
Just take the plunge, get over the channel then follow the sun. You'll have a fantastic time.
If you're going that far south I'd certainly want to be on the Dordogne itself.
Soliel Plage would probably be a good base for June - right on the river and good safe swimming from river beach.
It has the advantage of being within easy reach of the LeClerc in Sarlat by quite roads.
There is perhaps enough to do in the area to keep you occupied for a month - Sarlat, Domme, Roque Gageac, Beynac, Castlenaud and the gardens of Marqueyssac are all close by. Not much further and you can visit Les Eyzies, Lascaux and Rocamadour.
Well I would try Le Perpettuum near Domme - and in June it shouldn't be too busy. Otherwise try further up the Dordogne at Beaulieu sur Dordogne - the municipal site there may be OK.
But, like all the others have said, we holiday every year in June and never book anything. We have even been just one of only ten pitches on a large site which were occupied!

We stayed at Le Bugue (Rocher de la Granelle)last year. It's an ex-municipal site making lots if improvements. We were one of only six outfits there and our Dutch neighbours were such fun that we both stayed for two weeks enjoying "our private swimming pool" and cycling and walking etc in the heat! Large pitches. Shops nearby. Nice small town, large market. The previous year we had spent a night on the aire and thought Le Bugue was worth a longer visit. Madame speaks good English as she was a nanny in Yorshire.
We stayed at Beau Rivage (La Roque-Gageac) a long time ago and did lots of site-seeing (all of it probably). Since then it has changed hands several times so may be very good again (it used to be our total favourite campsite). We keep meaning to revisit it to check but it's worth taking a chance because it's on the Dordogne and walkable to Domme, cyclable to to La Roque-G and 12€ with ACSI

is back to back with the soliel plage, but on acsi and way way cheaper, the pitches are bigger and it's quieter, a really nice site.
there is a lane runs down the side and its a 1 minute walk into the soliel plage site to enjoy their facilities

Can't fault you there.
Have used La Bouysse 5 times - I think I was the first person on here to review it
If I was going in June with a dog I might be inclined to see if I could get a pitch on SP by the river.
But as far a vfm goes, La Bouysse takes some beating.
Thanks for all your suggestions I very nearly went for La Bouysse (thanks clf86ha) but managed to persuade OH that we coul dmake a riverside pitch quite private at Camping La Rivierre. So problem solved phew
I've stayed at both Port de Limeuil and peyrevade in Brantome, of the 2 I would go with Limeuil. This year we stayed at a site in Tursac just out of les Eyzies, really friendly, a walk down to the vezere river but very hilly, terraced (sloping!) Pitches. Next year we will probably go back to Port de Limeuil having been there last 6 years ago.
Now to look up the other sites mentioned!
As a child we spent 5 or 6 weeks every summer parked up on the banks of the river at Cenac St Julian, camping vert rive. A very basic site, but a great spot and having driven past it last week, not very busy at all!!
For fear of sounding like a broken record, Le Tedey is fabulous. There is a HUGE lac, there are lots of trees, it being a pine forest, but there is very little privacy between pitches. There are hedges but hey are not dense.
Its only 30 miles from Bordeaux city, 4miles from Lacanau Ocean (which we find too busy).
If you like peace and quiet, nature, love water and pine trees this will be heaven.
On paper it looks a bit naf, but I don't do naf ever, anywhere.
We love it at Le Tedey...have a squint:

Oops, they don't allow dogs during the height of the season.
Shame really because most people we know who have dogs with them, keep them on a lead. I love to watch dogs swimming and really enjoying the fun.
Sorry about that.
