As it looks like we are stuck with Whit week next year, considering doing a fly drive and hiring a rental. Can get reasonable flights into Nimes but due to return flight time being early would need to be no more than an hour from Nimes airport. Have found Castels Chateau de Boissin, which looks promising , heading northwards. Any other gems I have missed. We like the beach but would happily try rivers/lakes instead.
Thanks for any ideas!

My son flew in to Nimes from Hong Kong via Paris the summer before last and we met up at Domaine de Massereau at Sommieres. That's about 40 km from Nimes airport.
It's a four or five star campsite which many people like, but it's inland. It was in the Castels marketing group but they have very recently said they have chosen to withdraw from that group for "commercial reasons"

In the same area, but marginally closer and cheaper is Les Chenes at Junas

Camping les Cascades at La Roque Sur Ceze is next to a really excellent stretch of river.

You'd get to Nimes airport comfortably in an hour.Post last edited on 19/10/2015 17:42:55

I'm with longcol. Camping les cascades or somewhere around there. We're thinking about a gite near Uzes/ Pont du Gard at some point as we love that area and would like to explore it more. ------------- Amanda

Thanks, had already spotted Massereau but wow it's expensive to rent there and no bbqs allowed (that would mean oh won't be doing the cooking) so that's out! Les Chenes may be a bit too basic for my kids, but like the look of Les Cascades, but the accommodation doesn't look as good as Chateau de Bossin. The idea of two flushing toilets instead of the usual middle of the night dash is quite exciting ...

Heard reports that in main holidays Les Cascades has gone down hill a bit, with lots of youths at the cascades, leaving littler, making noise etc------------- France Lover

We like it fairly quiet really so Chateau de Boissin still looking favourite, enough for kids to do without being ott, and hopefully warm enough late May to use the pool etc. looks like lots to do in the general area.

Are you sure you could make Nimes Airport in an hour from Chateau de Boisson? Via Michelin suggests approx 1 hour 15 mins.
Cascades is also likely to be pretty quiet late May and is better positioned if you want to visit the likes of Avignon & Pont du Gard.

Had a complete change of plan to Lake Annecy - flights worked better. Just hope we'll get some sunshine!
Thanks for the advice though.
