Hi all, after spending our two week break this summer in the Dordogne and the the two trips before that around Brittany, myself and my wife were thinking of spending a couple of weeks exploring northern Normandy on our next trip. Anyone know of any quiet campsites that they would highly recommend.

Wow PaulaMB, chateau monfreville looks amazing. I prefer having our tent surrounded by hedging, we are a bit antisocial around our tent, prefer socializing at the bar, but that site is very tempting. With only a few pitches you are not going to be on top of other campers.

Hey clf86ha, How does Le Champ Neuf feel when its full, we are going July/ August, would be looking for peace and quiet rather than a place that is activities based.

But where in Normandy do you want to be?

If you are coming from Ireland into Cherbourg there are quiet sites down the west coast of the Cotentin overlooking the Channel Isles, or do you want to be further south near Mont St Michel? Over the other side there are the DDay beaches, or do you want to see the cathedral at Caen and the Bayeux tapestry? Rouen is an amazing historic city well worth a visit , and up on the coast the cliffs around Yport and Etretat are almost spectacular.

There are quiet sites everywhere. Better to decide what you want to see, what you want to do and where you want to be. Normandy is nearly 200 miles wide.

I've only been in May June and September times and although the site seemed busy, it was very quiet

We are booked to arrive in Cherbourg and leave a couple of weeks later by Roscoff. We were thinking of heading to Honfleur and Rouen for around twelve days and then stop off for a couple of days at Dinard before the ferry home. Nothing set in stone, so would love to hear where people have enjoyed staying around the area or if there are any places that are a must to see. We've previously had a couple of days at Bayeaux to see a couple of the beaches and WW2 museums. Atm Rouen looks like the most likely destination.

Cheers for all the campsite recommendations, there is a hell of a lot of research ahead.

Hi Mav, that's a nice little tour. I hope it goes well.

Stuart Thomas has suggested a couple of sites near enough to Rouen, and another possibility between Rouen and Honfleur would be Camping Risle Seine at Pont Audemer.

For a visit to Dinard last summer we stayed at Camping Le Vallon aux Merlettes at Matignon and there's a report of mine here on Campsite Search . It was also very convenient to see the lovely stretch of coast up there. I hope that helps.

We are cycling the same route in the summer Mav. Not camping but B&Bs. Only planning on 40km a day but I want a proper bed after a day of riding my bike.

These people are really well thought of in the cycling world. We are not using them at all but the eastern part of this route on their blog might include a site worth clicking on

Again, from a cycling view but the Tour/petit tour de Manche website shoes things to do and see on your route

Stayed at La Briquerie this year.
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=La%20Briquerie&by=sitename
Spent 3 weeks there exploring the area. Plenty to see. Honfleur is gorgeous and so are the coastal towns away from Le Havre. Superb beaches too. Plenty to explore inland and for day trips.
Lovely site with monster hedged pitches - could have fitted two caravans with full awnings and both cars on ours. Decent pool and restaurant/take away. 50 yards to an Intermarche.
Having travelled all over France we were a bit concerned that Normandy might seem a bit dull. Not a bit of it.
