We are planning to visit Lake Garda at the end of September, staying at Campsite Village Weekend. We will be travelling there after spending some time near Nice but have never driven in Italy before and wondered if anyone had any experience of this journey who could offer any advice.

Many thanks!

Used to hate awnings until we bought a Quest Rollaway

Motorway all the way - and aim to do it in a single day as inland sites are pretty scarce as you cross that part of Italy.

Have driven from Pisa to Nice. Expect it to be busy around Genoa. Expect lots of shortish tunnels.

We are doing a similar journey this summer, travelling from Frejus to Sorico (Como)
According to Viamichelin it's a 300 mile, 6 and a half hour drive, without stops.
I'm a HGV driver and while I'm firmly in the "keep her lit" brigade and do it in one go, I don't fancy it mid holiday, especially since I can't see us leaving the Frejus site before 9am
So I'm presently looking for an overnight stop around Genoa which is about halfway

Probably not as far as you want to go but I can recommend Camping Bellavista between Albenga and Ceriale.

We used it to overnight between Venice and Avignon in Sept 2014 (not towing).

I think the only other site we could find en-route that we liked the look of was up near Allesandria.

Taking the E25 avoids Genoa - although on our outward leg to Florence we didn't find traffic too heavy around Genoa.

I was generally suprised as to how slow Italians seemed to drive on motorways compared to how they drive in citites.
