I've used VRD every time I've been to France.
Last year my car broke but I managed to get it to our last hotel.
Phoned VRD and explained what was wrong, they said they wouldn't be able to fix it and arranged recovery truck to be at the hotel next morning.
The recovery truck pick us up and drove us 80 miles to Calais and even wanted to take us on the ferry to unload the car but customs wouldn't allow it.
I eventually got towed on by the chamber of commerce and off again at Dover.
Once off the ferry I phoned the AA, they came out to look at the car, said it was knackered and wanted to charge me £500 to recover me home, because the car broke down n France.
I phoned VRD back and they said they would get a recovery truck to me within the hour.
They then phoned back to say the truck couldn't get through because MyFerry had shut Calais down and operation stack was in force.
With that, they organised a hire car to be brought to me.
My car was collected a week later and brought home.
Not bad for £26.

This is the first year in about eight we have not used them. Had to call on their services last year and after the debacle that followed, will never use them again.
