I suspect the hire car company will chase you for payment, you have obviously committed the offence why not just pay the fine as you would over here. There is another thread on this subject although it does not involve car hire

If you do not pay, I suspect they will chase the hire car company for payment who will then charge you as they hold your credit card details.

Your hire car t&c's will state any fines incurred can be stopped from the credit card used to pay for the car. The hire company may add a 'handling charge' on top. Nothing you can do unless you cancel the credit card. Otherwise French speed camera fines cannot be collected in the UK.

Ask them for proof of the fine i.e. the original ticket so you can pay it direct. Too many scams going around regarding speeding tickets.
I also thouhgt that the hire car company had to pass on yoru details to the relevant department that issued the ticket so that they can pursue you direct. Only if that fails, can the hire company take the money off your credit card.

In essence the fine is against the car which is owned by the company but you were the driver, hence the fine is now yours. An hire car company will take you to court to get the money back as they have proof you were in possession of the car, and that will cost more than the fine, I know two people who have been taken to court by car hire firms, one was based in Italy, both lost and paid a lot more than the fine itself

As it was a hire car then you may as well pay up; if you dispute it, you could end up paying far more than the fine.

Is it a fine (from a court), or an invoice?
Who has sent it to you?

As has been said, I'd have thought the hire firm will have your card details, and their T&C's will likely show they can take the money that way.

Of course, if you dispute the accusation, or even merely have doubts, then ask for proof, but if you know you were guilty, then pay up... but if you are paying a fine direct to some court or other, just make sure the hire company aren't taking it again from your credit card, as they would have been contacted before you!

If you are caught by a speed camera here in Aus it takes your photo( is this the same in uk and France?) So if you think it wasn't you, by law you can ask to see the photo, and they have to give you a copy. Thats if you want to challenge the fine.
