When I ran out of gas once in France, I also had to change the regulator . I've still got the French regulator on. Do I need to change back to the English regulator?

Spanish gas bottles don't use UK size bottle regulators of any type. If you want a Spanish bottle you need regulator to suit. Called a jumbo regulator. It's a clip regulator 35mm, I think. If you are using regulators direct off top of the bottle ensure you get a regulator & not just a jumbo clip fitting for bulkhead regulator.

This Jumbo regulator here is for Irish gas bottle but the internet also tells me it fits Spanish bottles. Ring Hamiltons before ordering & they should confirm this. It is a butane regulator so your Spanish bottle will need to be butane.

If you are buying a bottle in Spain then you should be able to buy a regulator with it. Any diy shop in Spain will have regulators because lpg is widely used in Spain for homes.

You may have problems buying your first gas cylinder in Spain, as they ask for a registered address in Spain - and if they're doing it properly will ask for proof of address - and I'm not sure whether a campsite address would be acceptable. Lots of our friends in the Aude region of France buy their gas bottles in Spain because it's so much cheaper than in France, but they tend to get the first bottle from a car boot sale, and thereafter it's considered an 'exchange' rather than a new purchase.

I bought my Spanish bottle from the site. I have stopped buying the refill from them as it is €5 more than at the garages. I bought the regulator from the diy shop in the town. Like the majority of other people I connect it to the BBQ point. I know the BBQ point shouldn't be used like that but I haven't nor have known anyone else to have had a problem.

There are two types of connecters to connect to a Spanish Repsol or Cepsa cylinder. Both cost about 10 Euros. One is grey and is a regulator which can be used to connect to the van via the barbecue point. The other is red but is an unregulated valve which must be connected to the caravan regulator. This is the problem as this type of connecter at least as far as I have found is not available in Spain. I have however found a supplier in this country. The connector pigtail is 1 meter in length and can be used with the bottle standing on the ground.
Will check the supplier and add details shortly.

The hose is actually 1500 mm long. I have used it by feeding up through the mesh in the locker flooring.

To be honest the grey regulator is probably simpler but it does restrict you if you want to use the caravan gas cooker at the same time as using a barbecue.
