I'd like to get to this area in the Massive Central in late April / early May...I know the sites up in Murat-le-Quaire and around there are at 1000 mtrs.. Has anybody pulled a van up to there? Are the climbs up difficult, or gradual?
I'd be approaching from the West, A89 side...
It's only our second year with the van..an old Lunar Chiron, 1200kgs and we pull it with an old Peugeot 406 Diesal Estate 110hp, a good 85% match, but the car is not overpowered, shall we say.
Will I make it?

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I haven't taken a van myself but the roads around Le Mont Dore, La Bourboule and Chambon Sur Lac are not too steep at all, they are more twisty and gradual. Plenty of people take vans around there so I would think you will be ok.

I've looked in detail around Murat on google maps, satellite image,and saw plenty of vans on sites..so thought it must be resonable...but re-assurance is most welcome.

We had a big motorhome, not a caravan, but it's not that steep, and the roads were good.
