Personally I would avoid using a budget hotel so close to a major city, for various reasons not just security.
I would either go for Macon choice of 2 PC, or press on to Valence which would make for an easy run to Frejus the next day.
I notice that PC have 3 hotels listed for Lyon.
We like the PC at Chalon Sur Saone, it is built more like a proper hotel, and just 100 yards away from a huge hypermarket, Buffalo Grill etc, also the meals at the Campanile next to the PC have always been superb.
Although from Chalon-Sur-Saone to Frejus, would be a bit of a run, that's why we use the PC at Salon de Provence, less than 100 miles to Frejus from there.
Most campsites say to arrive 2pm onwards, but we have found that if you get there before noon, and the pitch is vacant they will let you on.
When the temps are pushing +45Deg C, getting on pitch early makes a big difference.
And leaves ample time for a rewarding dip in the swimming pool after you have done all the hard work!
