We have mostly been to Lake Annecy in the winter (only once in the summer) to and fro ski holidays, but we have never experienced anything other than sunshine! It is a truly beautiful area, and I guess that on our many visits we have just been very lucky weather wise. However, even in winter, Annecy itself can be something of a traffic nightmare if you hit it at the wrong time of day!
I used to live in the area in a town called Rumilly about 10 miles away. I played rugby for the local team and can honestly say I have never been so cold and miserable as I was then. And I come from Edinburgh!!
In the valleys the climate can be really damp and cold and far wetter than UK. In winter we used to go skiing just as much to get above the weather and see some sun as for the skiing. Seriously.
Sounds awful I know but given the chance I'd move back there in an instant 🏉⛷😉
Can't believe you've never done Annecy before Mike G...it's beautiful. Busy but beautiful.
Try not to travel on the lakeside road on a Sunday it really is chaos. Also, don't leave campsites to on spec in this area...we did and couldn't get on the site. There are literally queues at the entrances from 3:30 onwards. Quite understandably people flock to the lake for the weekend, a bit like the traffic going to the coast.
For a beautiful walk drive out to La Clusaz and walk from Les Confins to the refuge de La Bombardellaz. The goats roam free here and they all wear bells and have names !!!!. The views are fantastic from the top and it's not that difficult. The refuge sells beer too.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Charles' family from Clara Drive, or Charles my cousin from Rawdon. I sang at both funerals.
I'd like to go to the Amalfi coast, even though I'm not a coast person, this area looks really special. I think that would be a stretch in the car, so it'll probably be a fly drive holiday in self catering accommodation rather than camping.
Barcelona is beautiful especially the ramblas and the old harbour. Check out Secret Escapes they do some god deals.

Charles son looks to have a FOR SALE sign up, I ran that way on Saturday morning. There used to be a huge dark silver/grey camper on their drive. Lovely location , so I guess they're going somewhere even nicer. I only live a short distance away near the park. Charles was adorable and well liked down at PLAYERS. Small world Mike

Indeed. They've sold. The house was first owned by one of the Grumbleweeds I think. There's a pool round the back. Pretty wild back in the day by all accounts.
They are (slightly) downsizing to that place with a Bettys where you need your hat. The RV is going to the storage site just before the town on the A65. They may come down in it and call in when we're in Annecy.
Been close friends for 30 years. Charles was lovely.
