Has anyone been here recently. Can’t find many recent reviews and they are very mixed. We normally go to Les Alicourts but getting a bit pricey and dont want to head that far down.
Or if there are any other recommendation no more that 4 hours from Calais.
We are doing Dover Calais to France for a week then up to Duinrell in Netherlands and back through Hook of Holland to Harwich so France site needs to north east France and a nice site with something for 5 yr old.
Thanks
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I think they are mixed, because it's a site which won't suit everyone. It's a big, busy, bustling site, with a lot of mobile homes, and therefore reviews on here will reflect the opinions of people in touring caravans, rather than those of the majority who stay in mobile homes. There are 1404 reviews on Trip Advisor - I would guess most from people staying in mobile homes. The problem is, with sites with a large number of mobiles, campers/caravanners tend to be in some of the less accessible areas......... and reviews can reflect this.
We stayed there, but a lot of years ago now, and thought that the area we were in was ideal for us, just for a very short stay, the toilet block was lovely and clean, and warm - but the lights going on and off was a problem.
We didn't like the restaurant which was very 'Burgers and Chips...........' much like a cheap English pub - but lots of people were tucking in and obviously enjoying it.
I'd stay it depends what you're looking for. With a five year old do you really need a huge site with full-on facilities, or would somewhere perhaps nearer to a beach and with an indoor pool suit just as well? I would imagine the majority of small children might like the second choice rather than the first.
Hi we stayed here for 2 nights in August on our way back from the Ardeche. We loved it and are planning to go back for 1 week as an extra holiday next year. I'm not sure if I would want to stay longer than that but I can tell you what our thoughts were:
Positives
Very big site with so much to do
Outside swimming pool/lake was beautiful and a massive hit with the kids (aged 4 & 7)
Decent fishing lakes
Really really good shops ad bakery on site
Ten pin bowling, indoor soft play, laser quest - didn't use any of these as only there a short time
Restaurant and bar area looked really nice and packed entertainment everynight
Coach trip to Disneyland 2 days per week
Extra 'rides' for kids eg bungee type thing, bouncy castles etc.
Really great indoor pool area. It was a little bit grubby feeling though however it was the last weekend in August
Aldi/Lidl (can't remember which one) just down the road
Only 3hrs to Calais incl towing a caravan
Negatives:
Weather was beautiful for the 2 days we were there however everyone we spoke to said it had rained nearly every day for 2 weeks (obviously not the site's fault but if you are looking for sunshine it may not be the place).
Very very expensive - not just the pitch but all the extras such as bouncy castles, pedaloes etc purely because there are so many of them the kids obviously want to use them all the time.
Something also to note which i can't decide if its a positive or negative - the site is mainly English guests, we like to mix with different nationalities however in the Ardeche we were pretty much the only emglish on site which prevented our kids from making friends due to their age and language barrier.
Stayed her when it was a fifth of current size and we were the only brits! idyllic.
It has changed, people want facilities and facilities mean more pitches.
It is a brilliant site if you have kids and want loads to do if it rains.
It is now virtually all brits, it has a Pub, a chippy and premier league in the bar.
Still one of my favorite sites for fishing but now there only the two of us and the dog it is not really meant for us.
Its a good site, pitches vary in quality but I would say as good as most French sites.
