We're planning a drive to Croatia during the school summer holidays and would be grateful for any tips on the section of the journey between Munich and Croatia. In particular I'm keen to find out whether the tunnels ( Tauern, Katschberg, Oswaldiberg and Karawanken) have long queues and therefore if we need to plan an early start ? We have some flexibility on days of travel but we haven't been in this direction before so interested to hear of anyone else's experiences. Thanks
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
That's a bit of a how long is a piece of string question.
As with all roads, it depends on local conditions and the time of year.
Generally speaking we've found few delays. Obviously they are busier at weekends and when when the north Europe holiday season is in full swing but usually not stupidly so, but it might only take a freak incident or good/bad weather to change things. Today, for example, it seems the Tauern Tunnel is closed due to a rock fall, so it might be best to check the actual conditions nearer the time.
Via Michelin has an online traffic conditions map that should help you decide.
