Hi, does anyone know if there is the equivalent “camping and caravaning club in France. I particularly like small “certified sites” and would like to find similar in France.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
There are plenty of French Camping Clubs, but none of them run sites like CL's. You may find the type of site you're looking for on a farm (look on Bienvenue a la Ferme website) or as an Aire Naturelle, or as a site run by ex-pat Brits in a field adjacent to their house. But, few of them have only 5 pitches, and some might have bars, restaurants, and a swimming pool! Sites run by ex-pats are often advertised on the pages of the Caravan and Motorhome Club, or the Caravanning and Camping Club magazines.
France has 'municipal sites' which are run by the local Mairie and are often more basic, though some of them are large and commercial too!
It sounds like you haven't been to France before, and it may be that having experienced 'normal' campsites in France that you find them very different to the British sites you're used to.
It's also very dependent on when you go to France - in low season even the largest sites can be very quiet.

The Touring France guide published annually by the UK Caravan and Motorhome Club lists quite a few small, non commercial sites which might suit you , but if you would like to say where you are making for then I can tell you some of the ones we have found.

Thanks, we’re planning to spend time in September in the Massif Central region hopefully near La Bourboule as we camped there many years ago but cannot remember the name of the site. We think it was within walking distance of La Bourboule but memory can be a funny thing.. we were rained off with our tent almost floating away so we have unfinished walking to do and now we have a small caravan and dogs...
We used to camp whilst on cycle tours and probably got info in those days from the Maire in each town..
We need facilities like toilet and shower but really prefer smaller non commercial sites if possible.
If anyone knows of any little gems that would be great

Couple of sites listed here, although both seem larger than you might prefer?
