Planning to drive down from Rotterdam to Bavaria, specifically Kitzingen near Wurzburg. Would appreciate some first hand advice on route choices. TIA.

Hi,

I just drove back via Bad Kissingen to Hook of Holland, which is not too dissimilar to your proposed journey. I wanted to miss out Wurzburg and Heidelburg and those cities on the Rhine, on my return journey from Bavaria, as they were quite congested when I was there. It took me 2 hours to leave Heidelburg earlier in my trip due to roadworks. The castle was great though!

I did Dachau to Bad Kissingen leaving at 5:20pm and arriving about 8:30pm

And Bad Kissingen to just north of Arnhem the following day, leaving at around 1pm and arriving at 8 pm.

I used google maps and turned off toll roads.

Essentially I headed north from Bad Kissingen on the A7 towards Kassel. Just south of Kassel I joined the A44 heading north west and then west towards Dortmund.

At Dortmund I took a couple of N roads to joint the A2 towards Oberhausen, and then the A3 towards Arnhem, which then merges the A12 and finally A20 into Rotterdam and Hook of Holland.

It worked well for me, but could have chosen one or two other routes google suggested.

Cheers,

Mike
