Hallo! I am new on here, but had been a lurker on here for years. This website had been really useful for us in the past. :-)
Hubby and I are planning a route for next year summer - around 3 weeks travelling from Glasgow to Holland but stopping in France and Germany (and maybe Belgium) before arriving in Holland.
We use a folding camper and have four kids ages ranged from 5-14. We had done similar to this before - We spent three weeks travelling around France and we loved it despite the long drives.
We will camp at Duinrell as a treat for the kids and would love to visit black forest but the rest of trips, we are not too fussy as long as it has a swimming pool. We are not a big fan of Butlins/Haven types, prefer campsites in forests, beside lakes/rivers etc, even in middle of a village. Some good hill walkings would be great.
So any recommendations or suggestions or even advice would be gratefully received. Thanks.
Helen
Forget to add - We will go through Dover but would like to catch ferry home from Holland not France.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
This campsite, on the Frsnco Belgium border may fit the bill Val Joly
it is an enormous site, rather like a Centre Parcs, based on a ginormous lake. Any water sport you can imagine is available, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing etc.
The surrounding forest has bike trails, walks, nature trails and so on.
The campsite is very cheap and the pitches are very spacious, Toilet blocks are immaculate, warm and comfortable.
There is a good site at Oberweis in the mosel area which has a big swimming pool, loads of space to run around a good restaurant and walks from the campsite along a cycle path in the woods it’s call pruemtal camping. Check it out on campsite search at top of page. It’s not too far out of your way.
Will a swimming lake do? nice and clean with a grass sunbathing area, good hillwalking, plenty of cycle paths through vineyards, meadows and woods. In a large wine production area with lots of wineries for wine tasting and purchase, the local red wine is excellent. Very good site, good clean toilet facilities, nice town to visit. Stop off on the way back from the Black Forest. We had a lakeside pitch at extra cost, not the ACSI price, from the awning into the lake for a swim.
