Ab laker - I've just spotted your post and noticed that 2 out of the 3 sites you have been to, have been where we have also gone. We loved Le Letty and thought Logis was great but the region wasn't for us. Was Bel comparable to those 2 sites, as we are looking to try the Vendee next year.
Thanks, your opinion would be greatly appreciated x

Hi Frannyvan

Camping Bel was the first of those we'd been to, and the only one that we have (so far) returned to. It's smaller than the other two but also quieter. In family terms it's probably more suited for younger children than teenagers. The facilities are spotless, some nice play areas dotted around the site. The only real criticism is the pool - it's noticeably colder and smaller than the pools at Letty and Logis or at least it was the last time we were there, in 2016). However, I would say that the location is probably the best of the three - short walk to the beach, part of a nice little town that isn't too resort-y, and a short walk to a good Super-U. With the other two you have to drive to either a supermarket/town/beach. I would say cycle, but I don't think the area around Letty is great for cycling with young children, and although Logis has some nice cycle paths going towards the beach, the routes to the supermarket are also unsuitable for young cyclists. Camping Bel has some nice cycle routes around it, but you don't *need* wheels to get to places.

At La Tranche the sand is softer than Letty and the beach is more family friendly (less steep shelfing, weaker currents). La Tranche's beach is close to the town so has access to more facilities than La Palmyre (beach near Logis) or Plage de Kerler (beach near Letty). It can get windy, but so can the other two areas.

I think as a place, I warmed to Letty more than Le Logis - the beach elevates Le Logis I think. But for me La Tranche has the feeling of a second home. I am likely to go back to Letty and possibly to Le Logis, but I'm almost certain to go back to Bel, although maybe not for a while yet.

If you can deal with a fairly cold pool or can find alternatives (like the nearby beach) then you are likely to like Camping Bel, I would think (depending on e.g. age of any children).

Hope that helps :)

Thanks Ab. We have a 14 and 6 year old and we love Le Letty, but have been 2 years in a row and feel we need to move on for a bit of variety.
We do like to cycle to the shops and potter around the area, but most of our time is spent on site, so a good pool is essential.
I'll have a look at some reviews and see if anyone else mentions the water.
Thanks for your opinion.

We weren't that bothered by the pool aspect as we just went to the beach instead - with a 6.5 and 2 year old that worked really well. Fair to say that Bel has fewer on site activities than Logis and Letty, particularly for older children.

We've also spent a few days at Camping La Vallee in Houlgate. That was a different sort of holiday at Easter rather than summer, but we also liked that site. Close proximity to the D-Day beaches, and we liked Houlgate as a town with a beach as well.

Is it just Le Logis and Letty that you have stayed at, or others in different parts of France as well?

Yes only 1 year at Logis and 2 years at Letty. Feel we have been spolit by Le Letty and finding it hard to find something similar.
The more you look, the more bamboozled you get. It's hard because reviews are so subjective and depends what you want from a site. Tripadvisor can be a bit of an eye opener or lead you up the garden path!

Frannyvan if you are looking at La Tranche Sur Mer ,Baie de Aunis is worth a look - its right on the beach (no view from the pitches but just go through a pedestrian gate and you're there) and there's a brilliant waterspouts centre opposite the gate which I would think teens/tweens would love - had a great SUP lesson there. We were there in late June so the activities were only just starting but they seem quite pool oriented - water polo etc (but no waterslides, although there is also a huge aquatic centre and brand new skate park 50 yards away) . Reception staff are lovely and so helpful, and the walk into the town -where there is a Super U the size of a Tesco express - is about 10 mins along the seafront. There's a much bigger one on the edge of town. Loads of places to visit round and about too - La Rochelle/Ile de Re is about an hour in one direction and Sables d'olonne the other; it's not that far from Puy de Fou either.
