Hi, I've been looking for a new location for 2019 after visiting Le Letty for 2 years running. We love the site there and looking for something similar but in another location. I'm drawn at the moment to Carnac.
Is anyone familiar with Carnac or surrounding areas. Is there plenty to do with a Teenager and a younger one?
Can anyone also recommend a nice campsite with Aqua Park, please.
Thanks x

Have stayed at La Trinite which is the marina town to the east, but we went into Carnac quite a bit and it looks a fun. bustling place with lots to do for kids - there's a big watersports centre for example. The beach is lovely and there's a good cycle track all the way along the coast so you can bike to different coves (several nice inlets with shady pine trees) for picnics etc; La Trinite is worth a visit for the huge catamarans that come in! We saw that quite a lot of the sites in Carnac are very close to the beach but didn't investigate them - there's a Castels site near the standing stones, Le Grand Metairie which we were told by campers we met is excellent, if busy. In general it's a great stretch of coast - we took a drive out to Concarneau which you may already have visited from Le Letty, but if not, that's also highly recommended.

We found that Carnac itself and Carnac-plage had horrendous traffic, and were glad we stayed in La Trinite sur Mer instead and visited Carnac once or twice. Can recommend La Kervilor which is about 2km North of Trinite, good pool complex, a few water slides and an outdoor gym overlooking the pool.

I've had a look at Kervilor and quite fancy it myself for next September. Hopefully it's quiet then and we've not really explored that part of Brittany.

Our favourite site in Carnac is Les Druids. It's within a few minutes walk from the Men Du beach and half a mile or so from a Super U. We have just left the area in the past few days but as Les Druids had already closed for the season early in September we stayed at Kervilor which closes today - 30th September. All pitches at Kervilor are enclosed with hedges and trees and vary in size. Some seem much larger than others and in peak season I would think are pre-bookable so it would be important to stress that a large pitch is required if necessary.
The site has an excellent covered pool with a retractable roof as well as an outdoor pool which is currently being updated with a new slide system. There is an extensive play area to keep the kids occupied. The toilet block, recently updated, I would think, is excellent. The site is in a rural location about 3/4 mile from Trinitie sur Mer so if you have a motorhome and no bikes you have to "leg it".
Trinitie is a lovely place to watch the yachts in and out and has some really nice restaurants on the sea front although the main road passes along in front.
Personally we prefer Carnac as it has a fantastic beach and a great area for cycling. The Quiberon peninsula is great to explore with wild coastal cliff tops on the western side and some lovely beaches and harbours on the east.
Lochmariaquer at the mouth of the Golfe de Morbihan is a brilliant place to visit with the fantastically situated L'Escale restaurant litterally on the waters edge and watch the tide in and out.
Plenty to do on site and the surrounding area.
We usually head further south to the Royan area looking for the sun but we always love a few days at Carnac on the way back to Roscoff. If we knew we could be guaranteed the sunshine we would quite happily spend our whole holiday in Carnac.

we have visited Le Grand Metarie near the standing stones at carnac but only for a couple of nights.

its a huge site, it just goes on and on. there are areas a-z with perhaps 20 pitches or statics in each (so maybe 520 pitches) . but from what i saw the facilities are scaled up to serve the largenumber of pitches. the swimming pools were big 2 in door 1 out dooor and a searate lazy river and there were a few water slides all be it a bit tame compared to what my sons are used to.

if you have teenage kids though the evening entertainment would impress. there is , a blues bar, function room for quiz nights etc, a restaurant, a takaway, a amusement arcade, a cinema, a night club, an icecream parlour, a place with trampolines open until late.

there are shepherd huts, and even tree houses to rent if thats your thing.

however, it isnt within walking distance of the beach.

there are lots of reviews on trip advisor about the place, most good some not so....

I did have a look there but it seems to be ditching Castels next year and looks like they charge per additional tent at 10 per night. We will have a caravan and 2 tents for our daughter and pos a friend. So could make it mega expensive

Having visited France for 23yrs, we found this to be least appealing area..too British and not representative of the rest of what France has to offer: too flat, boring.

Yet, just a little further down there is Aquitaine...still flat but so much nicer than Brittany.

For me Burgundy and Provence are way better places to visit.

Sorry to disagree Bobcat10, but we've been visiting France for over 40 years and Brittany is our favourite area! It just shows that we all have different tastes, and I'm sure the OP knows what she likes.

Very different tastes. I worked in France for 13yrs and go where the French go.

I am an artist and an athlete, so I like the history and ruggedness further down the country.

I personally found that there were too many Brits in the area for me.

Frannyan - cycling around the Aquitaine region West of Bordeaux is beautiful. I followed in the footsteps of my parents who cycled from Paris down to Frejus via Lacanau and this fabulous region.
