Our kids are not coming with us this year and so have looked at hotel and villa holidays but keep coming back to campsites.
Can I whether others went back to the same type of sites they had visited with their children or moved to adult only, sites without the same level of pools, no kids club etc?
Any thoughts or even recommnedations - we have traditionally camped in France but happy to try anywhere really if there are any recommendations.
Many thanks in advance

Hi,
We still go to the same sites, kids still join us some of the time, which we enjoy but we’ve also explored other places & other campsites we probably wouldn’t have chosen before, which we’ve also loved. We enjoy the differences, still like the life & busyness of the more commercial sites but also the calm & quiet of small municipal!
Still the same sort of sites! We like a pool, a bar, a nice riverside setting, low-key entertainment, and still choose those sort of sites. But we go in a different season, and now generally outside of UK school holidays, when sites are much quieter. However, like others, this year we met up with our children and grand-children during the summer school holiday - but they had a gite and we pitched up in the (very quiet - only us there) field attached to the gite where we stayed for one week of their two-week holiday.
As far as recommendations go, where have you been already, and what do you like doing when you're on holiday? Recommendations will differ if you love beaches, or a visit to a wine cave every other day, compared to those who love a wander in the hills, bird-watching, or wild-water canoeing.
Read through the site reviews on here, as many as you are able.
You will notice that regular reviewers tend to indicate why they like/dislike a particular site. In this way you can find the sites that suit kindred spirits.
Are you gregarious or misanthropic? Do you like cycling up precipices or want just flat paths? Nearby supermarkets or miles from anywhere and so on.
Without kids you can use a smaller tent and take much less kit. This allows you greater mobility, you can move around from place to place if you wish. With only the 2 of you you won't have to book ahead unless you are going to popular or the usual destinations
Cooking becomes much simpler and quicker and you can afford better food and even restaurants.
Getting ready to go to the beach etc becomes much quicker, you'll have more time to get yourself ready without having to check on each other's progress so you'll have more time at your destinations.
Only go to adult only sites if you actively dislike other people children.
------------- Enjoy the liveliness of the syntax.

Thanks all. We have come to the conclusion that, as much as we want to fight it, we are *still* campers!
Have spent the last week looking at sites on the reviews and found some different ones to those we normally go to.
The point about the tent is a really useful one Bramston as really got rid of the caravan and went back to a tent so may be looking at another form of holidaying.
