We're definitely striking off Slovenia and Croatia and getting the kids to find out about each of the other countries they wanted to go to so that hopefully they can find some particular areas of interest and we can explain that to do those justice we need to cut the driving down

They are really good travellers thank goodness!

When I first read the proposal I thought it was too much, but on consideration I’ve revised my view. 25 years ago we took ours on a long trip, with folding camper, to Moravia, with three stops going and four coming back, and it was great experience. It should be much easier now, with the Euro and open borders.

I’d suggest that rather than wandering, go with a definite purpose - maybe to see the Sava River or visit Zagreb. Maybe four five-hour days? And stay to explore for a while. This purpose will allow you to throw yourselves in the way of adventure, and interaction with other cultures and peoples as the miles roll by. The MH should be a means to an end, not the end in itself.

Let us all know how it goes, and have a great trip.

I can understand the pressure to visit as many countries as possible, but I do think you are wise to pair it back a bit.

I can still remember being 7 years of age and travelling to France, Germany, and Luxembourg with my parents and sister in a Morris Minor and a Marechal frame tent. Happy memories.

I am sure your children will remember the trip far more than they would if they sat on a beach somewhere for two weeks.

Have fun.

Thank you - everyone's experience and advice, whatever that may be, is just so helpful and interesting. Got some really good tips and its got us thinking a lot more about the time and structure of the holiday

Then we'll go back to a more laid back tent holiday next year!
