Wonder if anyone can help me, on Saturday we came through Austria and into Italy as we were going to Lake Garda. Now all this holiday we have used our sterling debit card with no problems whatsoever, we came to pay the toll on the A22 of 13€20 I handed my card over, she gave it me back without a receipt which I thought was odd as we got a receipt from the last toll and the barrier went up! Now the advantage with Starling is as soon as you use it you get a text almost instant, which I never got which again I thought was odd. This morning I’ve had a text from them saying my transaction had been declined because my magstripe payments has been locked to help prevent fraud because that facility hasn’t been used recently as we tend to use contactless. Again this is something I can unlock in my app but I think I will leave for the time being.

So, the question is will we get a bill through the post for this at a later date even though the barrier went up?!? I suppose the more worrying thing is, was the lady swiping certain cards for other purposes as you would have thought they would use contactless for ease and quickness!

I am sorry you are worried but I don't think any of us can intervene between you and your bank. I hope they can unlock your card for you but in the meantime trust you have other more reliable cards you can use. Take care .

I would keep a close eye on your acc if you think something fishy was going on at the toll booth. Because there is alot of fraud going on in the world

I’ve just had another text come through saying the amount of 13€10 has now gone through but your right I still need to keep an on the account as you can never be to careful and yes we do have other cards we can use if I need to block this card. That’s the beauty of Starling you can lock and unlock the card through the app if needs be.

The tolls are so cheap on this section it may be worth using cash if you're not confident about the card usage.

I think its time they updated them to 'touch' payments... when the card is taken you just pray to St Anthony it is spat out.

Just read this. Poor you. We have just returned and probably did the same journey.
The payage system has been in place for a number of years on this route.....really good when its working BUT we got in one 'starting gate' and the car level card insert was jammed, I had to use the higher HGV slot....not easy at 5fy nothing.....not manned either so we had a queue behind us with some angry drivers behind.....the automated voice saying Arrivaderci was quite welcome this time though. Gr8 trip Limone was heaven for 2 weeks
