Our MH is ready to go at about 5 minutes notice, we live about 40 minutes from the Eurotunnel terminal. I would be very suprised if we get to France any time this year though.

Iwlani - you mentioned the Martin Walker Bruno books. We are loving Them! No, we can't get to France but we can get a flavour of it. These books are lovely, gentle reading which transport us to the Dordogne region of France.Thank you for suggestion, and there are so many of them!
