We just arrived home after three weeks in France. I got the impression, that the French don’t care much about COVID-19.
Yes, they hang the obligatory signs with the government's recommendations for behaviour, distribute dispensers with disinfectants everywhere and many employees wear masks. But nobody checks (or cares) if the recommendations are followed, if the masks cover mouth and nose (and raised visors, as seen in many restaurants staff, help even less) and if the disinfectant is used.
Where the wearing of masks is not mandatory, but only recommended, they are hardly ever worn. Large groups of people gather at the beaches, without any distance, but with many hugs and kisses as a greeting.
We kept our distance and reduced our contacts with others to what was necessary. But we are doing the same at home at the moment.
No, this is not normally what we think of as a holiday, but it is better than no holiday at all. Much better.
