jUST Had a short break in Jersey, when we landed the Virgin Mobile network we are with, would not work, After calling in a local phone shop, they said Virgin does not work on the island,
The dreaded txt then came through from Virgin to say all calls made were 30p minute & TXT 15p per minute,
Jersey being part of the British isles this was unexpected, have now decided to look elsewhere for a mobile phone company that are not going to jump on the Brexit bandwagon, would any of you kind people on here, be able to recommend a decent sim only company in the uk, that are not likely to start charging, for using your mobile data outside of the UK

I’m with PlusNet who do not charge for Roaming at the moment, but in the future, who knows? Probably the best you can hope for is that free roaming remains unchanged till the end of your contract.

That's odd.
Me and my wife have lived in France for the last three years and still have the virgin contracts we had when we lived in the UK and don't incur any extra charges.
Every month I get a text from Virgin welcoming me to France and stating that because we're in the EU we pay the normal tariff.
I wonder if it's because Jersey isn't in the EU?

They don`t charge me for roaming in Europe, or for sending texts. My BT contract works the same in Europe as the UK. In fact it is better as I can make calls to European numbers for free that would cost me extra if I made those same calls from the UK.
Some companies obviously apply roaming charges in Jersey but many don't. I don't think it's anything to do with Brexit. You can check with your own provider by 'googling' "Roaming charges for Jersey with (name of your provider). I've just discovered mine charge 40p a minute for calls, and 14p per text.
As a result of this posting I have just obtained a better SIM only deal for my existing phone with ID. I was checking out the countries which ID allow free roaming (which does include Jersey and Guernsey) and discovered I could upgrade for the same price I am paying now.
At the present time I pay £5 a month on a monthly contract which gives me 500 minutes, unlimited texts, and 1.5GB data. Because I hardly use any data that always rolls over to 3GB which is plenty for my usage.
I have just done an upgrade still costing me just £5 a month but with 2GB data (which will roll over into 4GB), unlimited minutes and unlimited texts.
