Hi
We’re arriving in Santander on the Portsmouth ferry at 14.30 on 26/01/2022. I’m having great difficulty finding any sites open within an hour or so’s drive bearing in mind by time we’ve disembarked with car and caravan and cleared immigration/ customs etc it’s likely to be 15.30 or later. I don’t fancy arriving somewhere and setting up in the dark.
Also I’m guessing we need to head South quickly, so what’s the best route??

The Campsite Search is your friend. Sites in Spain open all year round.

You may have had a rough crossing at that time of year, and your arrival might be delayed. With that in mind you may be best to spend your first night at one of the sites near Santander - for example Virgen del Mar or Cabo Mayor. - both are normally open in winter but they don’t accept dogs.

I’d second Burgos, but it will be dark. They have a lot of pitches that you can drive through so easy pitching. They also have a decent bar and restaurant. Be aware of the weather though as it can be very cold and snowy as you climb up to the plateau leaving Santander and head south.
In 2018 we left Cadiz area at the end of October in 25 degrees, Stopped in Córdoba and it was 3 deg at night, got to Aranjuez where it was below freezing, heading North to Burgos ant was snow ploughs on the Motorway, was like that until we started descending down to Santander. The bar at the Campsite was a bit of a haven for those of us who only had lightweight clothing!!
