Just got back from France tonight. Spent last night at Fort Lapin and tried to stockup at Carrefour, Cite Europe this morning (Sunday) before boarding Eurotunnel. However as we couldn't find a car park without a height barrier we gave up.

In the past we have used the nearby Auchan but we wanted some Carrefour own make items. Ìs there any non height restricted parking nearby, or was it just because it was a Sunday?

There is a large Carrefour near port with no height barrier. If you take exit for ferry port off A16 & take first exit off road towards port turn left towards town & Carrefour is about half mile on left.

There is a specific area for MH`s etc. at Cite d`Europe, with no barrier. If you drive along the road with the roundabouts, go past Lidl on your left, past the petrol station, and past the end of Carrefour there is a signposted left turn at the last roundabout. The parking is at the rear of Carrefour close to the rear entrance.

The MH parking at Cite Europe is here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/50%C2%B055'58.3%22N+1%C2%B048'40.1%22E/ at 50.932........

HOWEVER...be very very careful if you decide to stop there: for a few years now there has been a lot of migrant activity where they target UK registered MHs and try to stow away (unfortunately sometimes causing damage in the process). A couple of years ago we stopped at the fuel station and someone managed to sneak on board while our backs were turned for just an instant (unfortunately for him we were heading southwards). Since then we no longer stop there to do the shopping....its too risky and stressful.

If you do decide to stop there then I strongly recommend you leave someone with the MH at all times. Also make sure all doors and lockers are locked and you check underneath before moving off.

Thanks for the advice, we have normally stocked up on "stuff to take back home" long before we get to Calais, but were not that organised this time. Still managed to get some things from the little Bleriot Plage Carrefour so we weren't after much.

It sounds like it was agood job we couldn't find the motorhome parking area! We saw the signs for it but managed to miss it somehow.

Has the migrant problem now moved away from Calais? I know that in Oct 2020 we saw a lot of people hanging around the big fort there, but no sign of them last year or this.

We didn't see any migrants when we were over in May, and we went to Cite Europe twice, and for fuel there too.
