We're thinking of going to Camping les 2 Vallees at Vezac (about 7 miles from Sarlat) in early September. Would people recommend approaching from the east via the A20 and Sarlat, or from the western side, via the A10 and Bergerac? We'll be towing a 6.5m caravan and starting from near Cherbourg, but will have 10 days or so to wander down there, stopping off 3 or 4 times en route. We're looking for the easiest towing roads and most straightforward route, not necessarily the shortest or quickest.

It sort of depends where you will be on the day before. We were near Angouleme and drove to the Dordogne via the middle of Perigueux - you might not enjoy that. So where will you be on the day in question?
We have just returned from Beynac just up the road from where you are going. Definitely stay on the A20 to Souliac. You will pay one small toll for the final bit. Then head for Sarlat. Dead easy. Have a good holiday.
As said - really depends where you are immediately before. The drive across from Souillac is easy provided you go via Sarlat and don't cut across to Vitrac. Coming into Vézac through Beynac is much better since they made the road improvements (our van is 7.25m). Our usual route from Cherbourg is Alencon, Le Mans, Tours, Poitiers join N10 down to Angoulême then across Mareuil - Brantome- Perigueux ( taking the route just below the town centre (not been a problem for us), onto the D170 then you have a choice down to Le Bugue and onto the valley road to Beynac or cut across to Sarlat and use the bypass to avoid Sarlat centre joining the D57 to Vezac at the roundabout with the Peugeot garage on the right.
Many thanks for the replies.

Many thanks Grahame, that's one of the routes I was looking at, so I'll check it out in more detail.

Live 10 mins drive from Vezac and after visiting the UK or eg Loire valley, always use the A20 to Souillac. Getting into this corner of the Dodogne via eg Angouleme, Perigueux or Bergerac can seem pretty interminable.
As per jalash above, don't be tempted by ther riverside route via Carsac / Montfort / Vitrac - a few nasty pinch points / blind bends esp in a r/h drive care. Go into to Sarlat and follow signs to Bergerac - 3rd exit from the first roundabout you come to just before LeClercs - you only hit the outskirts of the town.
Coming end of August / early Sept you might be better off using Le Capeyrou rather than 2 Vallees - riverside site with great view of Beynac and only a stroll into the village.

Personally, I'd go for La Cabane; not been for some years, but would really love to go again. Hopefully next year!
Thanks for the helpful advice Longcol. We thought of staying at Les Deux Vallees rather than Le Capeyrou as we have 2 rescue dogs who are still quite nervous in busy surroundings so thought the more rural setting of Les Deux Vallees would be better for them.
We are staying again in Le Bugue. The route down for us varies with which port we dock at, until we reach Poitiers. Then it is the N147, overnighting at Camping Municipal de Mauvillant just off N147 at Lussac-les-Châteaux. Then on to outskirts of Limoges, taking N520 onto D200. This joins the N21 which we use till outskirts of Perigeaux. Onto the D6029 then D710 all the way to Le Bugue
