Where abouts in France ? Best bet would be to look on Leboncoin & find one for sale local to where you want it. I take it you want a secondhand tourer ?

Yes, we want a tourer, but it doesn't matter too much where it is now (within reason), as we would move it to a storage site of our choice. I had a look at Le bon coin, but those I could see were French registered and we don't want to do that as we will be towing it with our UK vehicle. Thank you for the suggestion.

There would be no problem towing a French reg caravan. The previous owner or dealer would de register it & you would put your UK number plate on the back & that’s it.
However prices of used caravans in France are high so you will find it cheapest to buy a caravan in UK & tow it there.
If you want to buy a used caravan abroad easiest place is northern Belgium. Not far from Calais & Dutch speaking so dealers are happy to speak English.
------------- Every day should be a holiday!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Have you looked on the Caravan Help Abroad website? They have some vans for sale on there and links to the mostly British owned campsites where they go to service vans, some of which advertise vans stored with them which are for sale.

Thank you. Yes I have been watching them for some months now, although their list doesn't seem to have changed in that time.

Jo, why not ring Kris, or his wife - who are lovely helpful people. He may know of other vans for sale.
Thank you everyone, you've been very helpful. I shall plod on, trying leads. It's not urgent, as we won't be doing anything this year, so maybe the autumn will bring more caravans to the market.
Thanks again.

I’d agree with Netherton. Everything is dearer in France - cars and caravans included. You won’t be rushed into buying if you keep looking here. End of season is best time to buy for a bargain. Not too dear to take one way. I can recommend excellent indoor storage near Angers at under €200 pa if interested.

Unfortunately, we are not able to store a caravan at home, so buying one in the UK would be a difficult option, as it would have to be rushed in the few days before we go to France. We already have a caravan in store here (which will be staying in the UK), so would not be able to store a second one. Believe me, we've talked round that one!
Looking at various sites, including Leboncoin, it seems to me that caravans of the age that we are looking at are broadly similar in price between the UK and France.
We have located a storage site in France (with a back-up if necessary), which is within a day's drive of the Channel ports, but central enough to give us flexibility in where we travel.
I agree that end of the season would be a better time to be looking.

Understood. A dealer might hold a caravan for you for a few weeks until you are ready to go? So might a private seller in the right circumstances. (Paid up front first) Good luck.
I have a caravan that is stored in France and I have to sell due to ill health. It is a 2008 Coachman VIP four berth and is fully equipped. It has a motor mover, Alko wheel lock, Alko jack, sun canopy that I bought new in 2019.
I just need to let it go so I will accept £3,000.
Message me for more information and I can let you have pictures and site where it is stored.
