Hi All, what with all the disruption everywhere, we're thinking of taking the van for a trip to Croatia next year. Any tips for sites or routes would be welcomed with open arms.

Hi, What disruption??
We have never been but it is on a shortlist of two, there and Portugal. As we can get the ferry to Santander Portugal is favourite-Croatia looks very appealing but it aint half a long way!

The disruption is on the crossings from Dover, and was caused by a combination of issues - extremely heavy traffic due to the start of the school holidays, a tragic accident on the motorway slip road, a technical issue in the tunnel meaning French border staff were delayed. If you go outside the peak period(s) then crossings have been fine. We went in April, and were on a crossing two hours before our booked one.

I would just work out a route based on what countries I wanted to see on the way, because it's not somewhere you would go for a 'quick' holiday therefore make the journey part of the trip.

We’ve been to Croatia many times but always to the Istrian coast, either Rovinj or Porec.
I’m not sure about the comment on it being a long way as it’s about 800 miles from Calais so little different to Spain or Portugal.
We always use the Eurotunnel, never had any problems but we don’t travel on peak days. We then head to Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. We tend to have two overnight stops, usually northern Germany and then Lake Bled in Slovenia which is well worth a visit.
I won’t recommend camp sites as we use naturist sites which are very popular there but there’s plenty of information online.

According to Via Michelin going out across Germany is 975 miles to Rovinj . A little bit less if you pay to cross Switzerland

Hi, According to Google maps from Coquelles to Porec is app 960 miles.
If you then add my 360 miles to Folkestone that's 1320 miles-in my book that's along way nd why Portugal via Santander at 600 is the more likely destination at the moment.
Also, cant see me doing a trip that length with just two overnight stops.

Hi,
My apologies, it was Bled I was thinking of which is about 800 miles with Porec being around 130 miles further.
We find it an easy journey over 3 days but each do their own.
