Been doing some research for a trip next year, potentially with a hired MH, and likewise found some very attractive pricing on this route, compared to £750-950 fares quoted on other routes!
Did the crossing a few years ago, and absolutely hated it (not enough sleep on overnight crossing), and the road access to port from places we had to pick up people from was slow and wearying, overall it ended up being an exhausting crossing where we were tired out by time we hit France and never quite recovered for our stay! It jaded our view of the crossing for future use, but that was really our poor planning, I think with better planning we could make it work better and save a fortune! Fed up with being robbed by BF and their dominance of the western channel crossings.
The 10am.crossing from Newhaven will be dearer than going across in the middle of the night, but not in the least stressful - so surely worth the extra cost - andDieppe itself is worth a couple of days stay before rushing on.

I had a full English breakfast both ways and it was fine. First time I had used this crossing since SeaCat many years ago. 2hr fast crossing. Hopefully when the prices are announced for 2023 it won't have gone up too much.
Back now , the ferry went fine in both directions. We arrived about 2200 at Newhaven on the way out and slept in the MH overnight in the car park, no problems but a bit of bus, train and lorry noise. Had the cooked breakfast on the ferry, very good. We were expecting a bit of a delay at Dieppe but got off pretty quickly and the French passport check was quick. Only some vehicles were checked at Newhaven. Got well on our way before finding a place to overnight.
Stayed at a site near Dieppe, then parked in town for the afternoon (had to pay to park in the MH parking). Had a nice meal and bought some bits before getting the 1800 ferry.
Getting checked and through passport check seems to take ages , mainly because the passport officers seemed to be asking a lot of questions, mainly about what you might have bought! All vehicles boots and toilets spaces were being checked for stowaways.
Journey back was fine , hit the road to get past Manchester before a quick snooze at a services and then back home.
We were amazed at how much lorry traffic there was on the M6 all through the night!

Pleased it all worked well for you and at a good price. We haven’t used that crossing for a lot of years now, but still refer to Newhaven as “The Gateway to Europe” as it proclaimed on a sign as you entered the town.
The Police on the M23 between the M25 and Brighton do use unmarked cars to catch speeders. Between stops these cars travel at high speed and then pull in behind legal speed traffic to see if anyone will try to chase them.
It is illegal and dangerous for a police car to drive at above the speed limit without using blue flashing lights and not being on either a car chase/stop or en route to an emergency.
By racing past cars and then pulling in the police are entrapping motorists.
I know this because I was driving a silver car and had the same unmarked silver Honda police car pull in behind me and follow me until a fast car sped past, this happened 3 times in one journey and could not have been possible unless the police car broke the speed limit each time to catch up.

I see from Google maps that Brighton is close to Newhaven, hence the post, I assume.
But the “unmarked police car” & the other fast car noted here are just Boy Racers doing the stupid things that they do with other Boy Racers. I know this from experience further north.
Traffic police in a silver Honda? They’re usually in a fast BMW up here, sometimes white, usually black, blue lights invisible under the bumper until they’re needed.
We used Newhaven Dieppe crossing for the first time this year with over 60s discount its very good value. The only downside is navigating Roen, the last time we drove through was 40 years ago on the motorcycle, its changed a bit since then. If you venture into the city you will now need crit air sticker, your ok if you just stay on the bypass.
We spent the night on the car park at the entrance along with many others, the sign says £5 but no one wanted to take our money. its not the best nights sleep weve had due to railway and traffic noise
20% OFF DFDS ferry prices if you are over 60 BUT you must book by telephone.
Look up the ferry crossing you want on their web - their prices vary which day and time, make a note and then telephone them and say you are over 60 and get 20% off the fare. In the summer they have 3 sailings from New Haven to Dieppe. Much cheaper than Brittany ferries

Hi, Yes it is but................
In May our MH buddies will use it-its not far and the prices is good BUT for us, travelling from Cornwall its not!
With the over 60s discount the DFDS route is app £260 less than my BF Plyymouth crossing-a lot of money but then you have to factor in;
500 miles extra distance x 32p/ml=£160
Two overnight stops=£80
So we would be saving a max of £10 for a whole lot of hassle!!
Hi all, i am trying to book New haven to Dieppe ferry DFDS with the over sixties code. Phoning the number they have on the website and it just goes dead!!.Could someone please send me the phone number you have used to book this offer.
Many thanks dav/jan
