We are planning a winter trip to Spain and will travel by Eurotunnel so a long way to go. Thinking it is best to travel through France via Bordeaux to avoid snow etc. Where is the best place to enter Spain? Potentially thinking of travelling along the coast towards Alicante then on to Malaga if time allows. Will we need to book sites? Site suggestions would be most welcome as would aire suggestions for the journey through France.

For your overnights on the journey can you say how far you want to drive in a day, and as your profile says you have a motorhome can you say whether your overnights can be at town / village Aires , or are you only wanting campsites ? All that info will help people.give advice.
The A20 down to Toulouse followed by A61 towards Narbonne then A9 Perpignan down into Spain is usually snow free - or at least it has been for the last 4 years since we moved to the Dordogne. Neighbours say we might get snow settling one year in ten. We do get quite a few sub zero night time temperatures - sometimes for a week or so - with icy side roads early in the morning but a clear night with frost normally means a sunny day to follow.
You're far more likely to get snow up north in the Pas de Calais but the French are pretty efficient at clearing motorways.
Not sure how far we will drive - probably 5 hours as we need to walk the dog after a bit in the van. We are happy to use aires for the journey, though a campsite would be good on occasions. Thanks in advance.

Lizzie, For a first overnight site open all year after the tunnel in winter many people have used Camping les Acacias at Tours - but there have been reports this year that it is temporarily closed as it’s in full use as a base for Ukrainian refugees. If you have that one in mind you had better check with the owners to see what the situation is.
Some departements also have rules about needing snow tyres/4-season tyres in winter. I'm not sure whether that applies to the autoroute but it might be worth checking. We can get to my sister's place in the Limousin without them but several of the areas nearby need them.
