For my trip to France next year, I have completed the following:
- Booked and paid a deposit for the campsite (new site in Normandy)
- Booked Eurotunnel
- Purchased multi-trip world wide travel insurance (I am off to USA in January, and may need to go to Canada later in the year)
- Kept up to date with the dog's rabies treatment
- Made enquiry about Animal Health Certificate for the dog (plenty of time as the trip is in May 2023)
- Checked and confirmed my van's motor insurance also covers Europe and has breakdown cover in Europe as well
- Got an 2-pin EHU plug in case I need it (already in the van)
- Made a reverse polarity adaptor in case I need it (also in the van already)
- Made a list of POAO foods that I need to take out before I travel to France
- Booked overnight hotel on the way out in Calais near City Europe (decision made, not for further discussion please, sorry, thanks for your understanding in advance)
- Got an European breakdown kit with Hi Viz etc. (already in the van)
- Got some Euros already, leftover from recent work trips.
Still need to
- Pack the travel documents and proof of ownership of the van
- Get headlamp converters
- Get spare bulbs for the van
Hopefully that should be it.
Please shout if I have missed anything!
France, here we come in May 2023 (not the Coronation weekend as I want to be in the country for that as it is likely to be an once in a life time event for me), woo hoo!

Crit'Air sticker purchased for van?
Ordered with thanks!
Good job I did a search about where to get it, nearly paid over the odds instead of about 5 EUR!!!
I did that with the ESTA with USA in the past, did not go to the official website and paid over the odds.

Looks pretty comprehensive but I would suggest you also get a Global Health Insurance Card, replacement for EHIC, as well as health insurance, if you don't already have one https://www.gov.uk/global-health-insurance-card.
Also, if you wear spectacles you must carry a spare pair when driving in France.

Got that already, thanks, however, I need to remember to bring it with me!
I shall bring a spare pair of glasses too.
Better go and start a "To Bring to France" list in addition to my normal "To Bring" list for the van!

The EHIC is still valid no need to replace them.
Spare spectacles aren't mandatory but if you get stopped when driving not wearing them there is a 130/90 euro fine.

Just ordered my Emovis toll tag as recommended by Eurotunnel, as I do not appear to be able to get one from ATMB or Bip and Go.

Mine expired so I had to renew and got a GHIC in return.
I have to wear glasses in order to drive, got a spare pair or two at home so it's not an issue as such.
I can take my prescription sunglasses as a spare.

It is advisable to carry a spare pair of specs in your car in the UK if you need them to meet the required eyesight standards, if you don't wear them you can be fined up to £1000 and 3 points on your licence.

Got it - the prescription sunglasses normally stay in the car. I need to remember to take them with me in the van.
The glasses made to the last prescription are still good enough according to the optician earlier this year - the main change was for reading, not for distance.
