It's time to start booking our main holiday. We're looking for a campsite fairly close to a dog friendly beach in the Vendee. We don't want an all sing all dancing site as it's just the 2 of us and the dogs. We quite liked the look of La Yole but not sure if they'll take 2 dogs.
We loved Le Capeyrou in Beynac last yr, a much quieter site than the large ones we have used previously.Don't need that now that it's just the 2 of us! That's why we want to start taking our girls with us.
Any recommendations gratefully received.

La Yole is what it is and very popular - but I am surprised you have chosen it after saying you want a quieter and smaller site which is not all singing and dancing.. With that in mind I would be looking at somewhere like Camping Le Fief Angibaud, or some the ones on the Great Little Campsites list published by ACSI.

It might be easiest to make sure you can find a dog-friendly beach first, and then find a nearby site. Here is a website where you can find dog-friendly beaches all around France, but this is the Pays de la Loire section.
This is the issue I have with the site that I had always wanted to visit with my dog since 2009, in that although it has direct access to a beach, dogs are no longer allowed on the beach anytime of the year!
Hence I had to rethink where to go in May 2023, as I do not believe it is fair to the dog when he sees a beach and can't play in there.

Have a look at La Falaise in La Turballe. You cannot get closer to the beach if you tried. We had no issue with our 3 dogs. It has an indoor swimming pool, a small bar and you can buy a meal from the bar. Across the road and within walking distance is a supermarket and also a filling service station. Nice reasonably priced restaurants in the area.

If you decide on this site, I would recommend booking in advance or phoning to check availability. We tried to stay there at the start of September 2018 but the site was full.

It looks good, thanks , and I have e-mailed them about dog access to the beach in May for future reference (planning for 2025's trip).

Thanks for that, suits me fine as I normally plan well ahead!

Feedback received from Camping de la Falaise in that dogs are allowed onto the beach next to the campsite until about mid June, which is great news as my trip is currently planned for between the 2 Bank Holiday Mondays in May!

I've just posted this link in the 'Time to Start Thinking' thread as I hadn't realised there was another thread about dog friendly places.
It also gives information about other places such as attractions and restaurants that allow dogs.
I can't remove the reply in that thread but thought it might be helpful to add here and perhaps Admin could remove it form the original to avoid duplication. .

Thanks everyone, I’ll take a look. La Falaise will be no good for us as we’re going in Aug and ideally want to take the girls on the beach. I will have a look at the dog friendly beach app though!

Thanks everyone, it looks like it's going to be more tricky than I thought.
My OH loves taking the girls onto the beach and would like to swim with them. Perhaps we need to rethink beaches. We normally head south, Dordogne or Ardeche but for our first trip with the girls, we thought the Vendee. It's not so far and usually a little cooler.
I always find deciding where to go really tricky!

Most beaches in France and Spain are closed to dogs from late July until end of August for obvious reasons.
If you definitely want beach access then think about a site in the Ardeche. We store our caravan on a site in the Ardeche with riverside access - which my son's dog loves. Big pitches, two lovely pools, heated area of the sanitary block, restaurant with reasonable prices, nice bar with under-cover and outside seating. Some 'low key' but noisy entertainment (in peak season only), but which finishes early enough to still get a good night's sleep. Takes the ACSI card after the 25th August - 17 euros per night. Sorry, only one dog though!
Plenty of other riverside sites though in that area.
A day of all things motorhome and campervan. The show is held both in the main indoor arena and across the grounds. Catering, hot drinks and food options are available. Easy access to the site and free parking included. Win one of five pairs of day tickets
