We’d like to camp this summer in Brittany. We’d appreciate hearing how dog friendly Brittany is and any recommendations for campsites (we have a folding camper with awning). Thank you

It’s extremely rare to find a campsite in Brittany where dogs are not allowed, so go ahead and choose the size and style and price of campsite you prefer - read the reviews on here and look at website photos. But expect to pay a few euros per dog per night at campsites wherever you go.
Beaches are another matter. Beaches at resorts and beaches with life guards will have restrictions or outright bans on dogs over the summer months - but go to more remote stretches of coast and your dog is more likely to be allowed . Ask advice at your campsite.
We stayed at camping Tourony in Tregastel. Nearby, there are two lovely beaches - one where dogs are allowed and the other does not allow them. We have also stayed at the municipal in Saint Gildas de Rhuys where dogs ere allowed on the beach. That said, we were there in September so I’m not sure what the rule would be at Saint Gildas site in July / August.
On most beaches dogs are banned from the main areas between approximately mid-May and mid-September (actual dates are widely signed). However there are many coastal footpaths and there are no restrictions on dogs on these. We have stayed at Camping La Ferme de Lann Hoedic near Sarzeau several times with our 2 dogs and find it very good for them (and us) with plenty of varied walks nearby, including a traffic free path down to the coast to join the coastal path. Reception have a very helpful map they will give you with lots of walking/cycling paths in the wider area marked on it.

In the past we found that rivers were better than beaches for our dogs. There were fewer restrictions and more shade for when it got hot.

The Tarn region is good for riverside camping. We have stayed at a few sites around Millau and dogs allowed on all the river beaches. One of our favourite riverside campsites is Camping Chantemerle near Florac. With a riverside pitch our dog went in and out the water all day (down a bit of a steep bank). But there is also a river beach and just walking along the river the dog can go in and out. The campsite at Confolens, Camping Ribieres was great for our dog too. Some lakeside spots can be good too. We stayed near Annecy and the lake beach just outside the campsite was good for dogs but worth noting that some sites with their own lake beach do not allow dogs in.

What does “dog friendly” mean . - you can’t take them into shops, supermarkets, museums, stately homes, galleries, swimming pools, alpine cable cars, most restaurants and many beaches.
A few years ago we travelled with 2 dogs, and even in Lyon and Avignon dogs were no problem, even inside the restaurant - they got served first with bowl of water. Our current dog hasn't a passport, are there now more hoops to jump thru with Brexit? When we first did it you needed a rabies titre taken, and then later that wasn't required, just the jab. Cos I had a fracture in my knee last September we had to postpone a trip to Cyprus. Now I am reluctant to fly partly due to my knee needing support cos my feet cant touch the floor as I find seating too high for me, also causes backache. So we are thinking of finding sun in France again, via the Chunnel and the dog would come with us.

Your dog will now require an Animal Health Certificate at a cost somewhere between £60 (ours) and £250 (something I've read). This has to be done within ten days of travel and is only valid for four months. So you'll require a new one for each trip. Other than that travel with pets is just the same - check in at either the check-in booth and self-scan, or go to Pet Reception at both ends. Dogs near a visit to a vet and a wormer between 24 hours and 5 days of return travel. Cats don't require this.
Our vet no longer does travel for dogs. Unfortunately on enquiring with another vet in area was quoted £250 for Animal Health Certificate and ?£60 for rabies vac, at these prices and shorter time for it to be valid, maybe we'll think again.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
